Ted Cruz Uses the Thought Maker on Shatner

Not to mention, you'd better turn in your little IDIC pin.

I'll never understand the idea that we need to tolerate intolerance and bigotry like it's no different than any other kind of human condition. Ted Cruz is the opposite of IDIC.

Something tells me the Federation wouldn't stand idly by if one of its own planets tried to deny the rights of another member world because the first one claimed IDIC. "Respect my right to disrespect and limit an entire population" just doesn't sound like it would fly.

I dislike Ted Cruz but I'm honestly impressed by his insight into Star Trek.

You can argue that Kirk lines up with the way conservatives view themselves but not the way they actually act. As Shatner says it's ridiculous to read current politics into Star Trek. Star Trek is about human struggles, and it just highlights the politicians' world view that all of human struggles sum up to 'liberal versus conservative' with your own side being a universal good fighting back against the other in the eyes of politicians. Kirk believed in people thinking and acting for themselves, living in peace free from the influence of paternalistic forces.

People of both parties have those values and both of them and fantasize the other party rejecting them, because they are not political values, they are human values.

Based on years of experience, I'm going to close this political stinker before it gets out of hand. Please feel free to open a thread in The Neutral Zone for even more fun.
