I was in the book store tonight, and happened to see this book on the shelf:
Sci-Fi Chronicles
I would assume the ship silhouette on the cover is meant to evoke thoughts of Enterprise and Star Trek... but with that third nacelle, it is obviously not the Enterprise. I believe it is actually an Ascension Class Dreadnought, which, according to the Starship Schematic Database, is a Todd Guenther design.
I'll admit, I actually thought it was cool seeing a "tech fandom" ship on a book cover, even if it was only a silhouette. I am a little curious why they did it, though? Were they worried about copyright infringement if they used an actual Enterprise silhouette? But wouldn't they then be infringing on Guenther's copyright? (Unless they did license it, but it was cheaper to license from Guenther than Paramount?) Or did the person who designed the cover just not know enough to realize it *wasn't* the Enterprise... as odd as this would seem, considering how many references are available online, and how relatively obscure the Ascension is.
Anyway, just an interesting find in the book store that I thought I'd share with all of you.
