teacake does Stargate: punch it

While this thread is still open/active, I thought I'd use it to comment on just having finished the SG-1 S9 premiere three-parter. This might seem like sacrilege, but I actually like Colonel Mitchell and General Landry way more than O'Neill and Hammond (don't get me wrong, those two were great characters, but there's just something about Beau Bridges and Ben Browder that really makes their characters 'click' for me). I also love that they used Vala to briefly fill Sam's role in the story while Amanda Tapping was on maternity leave, as she really fits well into the whole SG-1 team structure despite being, at this point, a rogue freelancer. It was also great to see Vala and Daniel reunited because of the incredible chemistry that exists between Claudia Black and Michael Shanks. The level of indirect crossover between Atlantis and these eps was also great, as was the introduction of the Ori.

As an aside, I was a little bit miffed that I'd apparently been told the wrong order in which to watch Avalon Pts 1 and 2 and Origin in relation to the SGA episode The Intruder, but, upon starting to watch the latter, I realized that I'd freaked out for no reason.

Okay, here goes. Along with the jokes about Teal'c and Bregman (and I think some other made-up thing), I slipped in a reference to the Asgard giving all their secrets to the SGC and then committing racial suicide. It sounds so ridiculous in print that I didn't think you'd peg it as a real spoiler. Then when you actually saw it on the show later, you'd do a double-take. "Wait a minute...."

I think it actually would have worked as long as everyone else here kept mum. Since there's no guarantee of that, it's probably better that I deleted it.

If no one else gave it away, would you have bought it?

The secrets part, no. The racial suicide part, yes. Who knows what those crazy grey guys will do?

A special shout out to gturner and The Wormhole who were the most regular commentators over these last 5 and a half months, thank you both for being here.

Farewell..

Oh, thank you, it was great fun.

Now I'm doubly sad, as I both enjoyed this thread very much and just found out that one of my most frequent chat buddies for the past decade, Eric Faine, passed away a few days ago. He was only about 35, lived in Queensland and distilled his own liquor to avoid the Australian tax man. I'll miss him horribly, as will many who enjoyed his irreverant wit. I almost had him convinced to watch Stargate.

I'm sorry to hear that gturner :(

Yeah, we're all pretty torn up. A friend found him dead in his kitchen. Maybe an olive pit got him. We always figured it would be a croc or a brown snake given that he lived for the hunt, or a moonshine still explosion.

What a beautiful picture. I can't imagine how emotional that must have been for Judge, Shanks and Tapping, after working together for the better part of ten years. And of course Black and Browder had already been through all of that together before. I like how they're kind of off to the side, letting the others have their moment, but Shanks is still reaching out to them.

Where is that screencap from (episode-wise)?

The last scene of the series I believe, the end of Unending.

incredible chemistry that exists between Claudia Black and Michael Shanks.

I wish we'd seen some satisfying not-AU consummation with this. Because it really stood out as a relationship full of potential greatness.

Yeah, Daniel/Vala was great. I haven't watched most of the series, but what I saw of them was nice.

Beautiful. :)
