Tawny Newsome and Justin Simien developing new live-action Trek series

Depends on reaction to the SEC31 film and the character. Also what will be on in three years. Might be an opportunity after SNW wraps. Or maybe none at all. Just spit balling.

It would be a gender-swapped Strange New Worlds (a basically good Captain zooming around the galaxy doing good things).

Back in the 90s we got 26 episodes of good captain space travel adventures every year, in addition to 26 episodes of good captain space station adventures, and I was pretty satisfied with that arrangement.

How many have we had now? :shifty:

Look at my signature.
Which part? Gandhi? Powell? Legacy? Serenity? the other thing?

What? You think we have too many "good captain" shows, but you want Legacy which will be a "good captain" show? You don't want TTNS* which isn't a "good captain" show? My heads spinning!!!!

*That Tawny Newsome Show :p

What about Stardust City?

I believe the new movie Star Trek: Origins has the 22nd century covered.

The SNW fans got their show and they hate it already  ("Nurse Chapel done gone woke!")
Wrong. The show's tremendously popular and successful. There are always fans who don't like whatever. Quite a few on this board who dislike POC, Voyager, ENT, STD...

And it wasn't made because some fans signed a petition and made noise on the Internet - that was a great opportunity which the smart folks running Trek exploited for publicity purposes. The project was gestating from the time Goldsman came aboard and started lobbying for it. It's why Pike was introduced, and why an expensive new permanent Enterprise bridge set was constructed during season 2 STD production - in contrast to the recycled Stargazer set used in PIC III and discarded immediately thereafter.

Paramount doesn't owe fans a 25th century series because "other eras are covered."

HotRod is right - you may get a TNG era project in three or four years if Kurtzman thinks it makes sense as part of the franchise. Or not. But that's a long time to hold your breath.

How many comedic series are they going to squeeze out of this sorry excuse of a franchise?

I said it before and i will say it again: fire Alex Kurtzman, he is poison!
Cancel Starfleet Academy, there is still time.

Hire a new creative lead. Think about what Star Trek can stand for from 2024 to 2034. Then reboot this franchise.

Yes, the poison that's been responsible for the explosion of new Star Trek stories in the last seven years. The poison that made Picard possible. The poison that made Strange New Worlds possible.

Time and time again, it's the same complaints.

Two so far. The first one seems to be a fan favorite. Finger’s crossed for TTNS. If that works, bring them on.

Why? Treks on successful run. Nominations. Awards. Positive buzz.

Again, why? Currently it stands for inclusion diversity, optimism and some pretty good story telling. Which is a key part of the Trek legacy.
