Tawny Newsome and Justin Simien developing new live-action Trek series

"The actress also noted the series doesn't officially have a green light just yet."

Also:

“We have nothing actually planned so this isn't a spoiler, but that was definitely the promise of setting it in that time period.”

So, they want to set the show in the 25th century post-PIC, but they don’t even know what the show is actually about, and it’s not greenlit yet. Huh. Sounds like a show that’s not actually going to happen Star Trek Legacy.

I still think it's Alex Kurtzman trying to save his job with regards to the incoming Ellison management.

It's his way of showing the Ellisons that he can make Trek on an ultra-tight budget, if need be. It's a bullet in the chamber.

Legacy has a much better chance of happening than this new show:
  • Legacy has the Enterprise.
  • It's closer to traditional Trek than this new show (therefore, it's in Paramount's comfort zone.)
  • The Seven and Raffi Funkos have sold out at StarTrek.com (Paramount's own backyard).

I feel like so many people mistook this for actually happening, that the whole "word of mouth" tactic hasn't exactly gone to plan.

We're just "ok, it's happening, I am/am not look forward to it".

If it was more like "Guys, we'd like to make a new series set in the 25th century, with Tawny Newsome being heavily involved", it might've been more clearer and/or generated more online interaction.

On the other hand, having two shows about the Enterprise is brand confusion, and also Legacy is not and never has been a project actually in the works, which puts a bit of a damper on it. Which is probably for the best, because Terry Matalas has shown he can't make anything but nostalgia bait and once forced to turn it into an actual show it could never match all the dreams people have come up with.

Strange New Worlds is nearing the end of its lifespan. What's going to replace it?

Alex Kurtzman is on record as having wanted to create a new Enterprise. I would like to think that he intended more for the E-G than have it fill three minutes at the tail end of the final episode of Picard.

It is? Season three hasn’t even premiered yet. They’ll apparently start shooting season four soon and at NYCC there was talk about season five. And who’s to say now what will come after that?

Disco was planning season SIX when it was cancelled.

Take P+'s word with a front-end loader full of salt. They like to cancel things at the last minute (Disco was cancelled while the cast was at sea on the Star Trek Cruise).

They already have a cheaper show in production (Starfleet Academy) -- a cheaper show that's consuming a great deal of resources.

Well, as far as I’m concerned, Discovery sucked balls though and I can’t even believe it made it to year five while the writing never improved even marginally. Whereas Strange New Worlds is pretty strong and well written. It’s like night and day and I can only hope that is reflected in viewership numbers and keeps P+ happy for another couple of years.

It's hit-and-miss (Subspace Rhapsody, anyone? :shifty:)

After five seasons, shows become more expensive. P+ has to pull the plug SOMETIME.

Then there's the producers' designs on redoing TOS (We already have Spock, Kirk, Uhura, Chapel, and Scotty. How long before Chekhov and Sulu show up?)

We've already had an OS reboot with the Kelvin films. How long before SNW starts stepping on TOS canon?

For the last eight years, Paramount has been making official announcements about movies that end up never happening.

Also, during CBSAA/P+'s existence, they have made official announcements for shows that ended up never happening, or happening in a significantly different way than how they were originally advertised.

Now we have statements from Paramount that a show whose first season won't even debut until 2026 suddenly has its second season greenlighted, and another show whose fourth season won't be produced until possibly sometime next year amid a huge upheaval with the Paramount/Skydance merger and massive layoffs/firings of key production personnel.

My point: Don't believe anything you hear, even officially, until you actually see it happening on screen, in whatever form it actually takes.
