Tawny Newsome and Justin Simien developing new live-action Trek series

If someone had never seen a single episode of Star Trek in their life looked at the screen they'd think 'oh, that must be Star Trek'.
But Star Trek has done PLENTY of episodes that stood out as not looking very "Star Trek."

JJ Abrams knew this. That’s why his trailers featured the Enterprise, Kirk, Spock, et. al wearing yellow, red and blue Starfleet uniforms. And, of course, Leonard Nimoy. Remind me again how many people went to see his movies and how much money they made?

Those photos are just from individual episodes and not indicative of what someone who had never seen the show would assume to be what the show was about.

A fairytale episode, animated crossover episode, and musical episode don't count as taking chances?

The animated crossover was much more plausible than the musical episode (even if it was the means to give Jerry O'Connell the opportunity to share the same stage with his RL wife, Rebecca Romijn).

Speaking of Star Trek's Commander Couple :luvlove: :

I just took shots from episodes that if someone were to randomly turn on their TV and had never seen an episode of Star Trek, wouldn't be able to immediately identify as being from Star Trek.

Proving the argument that all Trek should immediately be identifiable as Trek is wrong.

This show, while no doubt looking somewhat different from what we're accustomed to, will still surely be a Star Trek show. Just as every other series made before it has been a Star Trek show, even if it they, at times, looked completely different.
