Tarantino Trek - what could we expect?

We know that Quentin Tarantino's got a Star Trek movie idea in development, with Mark L Smith directing.

He's said that he would like to do a story like THE CITY OF THE EDGE OF FOREVER or YESTERDAY'S ENTERPRISE redone as a feature film, and due to his past work people are expecting an R-rating or above.

Quinto has said he's expecting to work with Tarantino but this is not officially confirmed - in light of today's news of negotiations between Pine and Paramount breaking down, could this be an opportunity to take the franchise in a new direction?

Hoping Trek Thor will now be cancelled and Tarantino Trek will be fast tracked for summer 2020 to film as soon as he completes his Hollywood Manson movie. When the QT film was announced (along with ST4) it was very exciting and there was kind underlying feel of oh wow can't we get that one first instead of about 5years time? especially since it seemed to be moving fast with writers etc (and if 4 bombed there probably wouldn't even be a QT film) - and since its rumoured to be time travel with the JJ cast wouldn't that make the timetravel ST4 redundant anyway? also as it'd be Tarantino maybe they'd be less issue with money for the actors

To be utterly frank, I'm expecting a commercial disaster that'll split the fan base but be remembered for a long time.

With swearing and gore.

I really hope Kelvin universe ST4 with both Chris' happens first.

I don't think it will even happen.

ST4 needs to happen first and make enough to justify QTs project existing in the first place. If it bombs, then surely the QT movie is dead in the water.

if chris pine does not want to come back. fine.

let's move on with tarentino's trek with the aos cast without chris pine as major guest stars.

I don't see how ST4 determines the fate of Tarantino Trek.

Frankly, I don't know why Paramount wants to to ST4 other than as a stopgap while they wait for Tarantino to be more involved.

I think it's a mistake to go forward with Tarantino Trek without Tarantino himself directing, btw. It will come across as little more than a publicity stunt if Tarantino will have been responsible for little more than a rough story outline or first draft.

My prediction is the opposite. It will be the best performing nuTrek movie at the box office and will be one of the better Trek films ever.

That's IF it ever happens.

Because if ST4 bombs can you really see Paramount ponying up another 150 million plus to do another?

They're already trying to short change the top actors for this next instalment, what do you think will happen if ST4 doesn't even do beyond numbers? Tarantino alone won't be cheap.

Honestly I think QT would be respectful to the IP, There probably would be violence, maybe swearing buy I don't think he would go overboard.

I'd be expecting a strong action movie with depth to it.

Beyond had a REALLY bad marketing campaign, like REALLY bad. Also STID was seen as a bit of a dissapointment.

Beyond on the other hand didn't release as big because of the above reasons but is well liked by the fanbase and garnered some good will.

I don't expect paramount to mess up their marketing a second time in a row, and the last star trek left a good taste in people's mouths, so as long as it's a good movie it won't bomb.

I think doing a big franchise movie is on QT's bucket list- he's been talking of eventual retirement for a while, and I think he wants to do one tentpole-for-hire before he throws in the towel - be it Star Trek, James Bond, or Cricketman comic book stuff (something he has a preexisting interest in). So, the window for him doing a Trek might be smaller than it seems...

My guess it is will be much, much closer to classic Trek storytelling than ANYONE here is expecting.
Tarantino has a sometimes very crude humor, loves violence, and stretches single scenes to inteeeense lengths. He won't do ANY of that in a franchise film! (It helps he isn't directing it as well)
Whatever Tarantino cooks up - it will be the basic plot behind it. It will be a much more streamlined, mainstream movie than, say, "True Romance" was. Basically, it's Tarantino's way of not doing a Tarantino movie. Something he already wanted to do when he wanted to do a Bond movie - but he never had the chance to do it, and he can't do it with one of his own "regular" movies or he risks diluting his own brand.

I say, the Tarantino project is one of the most exciting things (right after "Picard"). Because Tarantino is a really smart guy. And this would be his movie where he lays down his signature style, and all there is would be purely Tarantino high-concept, but without all the superficial "Tarantino"-stuff.
