Take Me Out to the Holosuite

Even during times of war, there are times out for real life things, including recreation.

For Example: M*A*S*H*

One note regarding Data. If he pitched the ball as hard as described above, the catcher would not be able to catch it and the umpire would not be able to call a ball or strike! He would have to cut it down quite a bit.

Fun fact: While Rom was the most incompetent one on the team, Max Grodenchik himself is an excellent player. He almost played in the major leagues, in fact. He had to go out of his way to play as badly as Rom.
Yeah, he specifically switched to bat left-handed if I recall correctly.

Does anyone know his past baseball credentials? I am a huge baseball fan. I had no idea Max of all people was that much of an athlete. I would love to know if he played college baseball or even minor league baseball.

Found an article that said he played "semi-pro" after highschool, but wouldn't list what team or organization. It also said that to play bad so convincingly he had to play left handed when he was really right handed.

Here's the link if you want, the part about Max is pretty far down: http://www.tv.com/shows/star-trek-deep-space-nine/take-me-out-to-the-holosuite-20991/

As a pitcher, he should be able to defeat all Vulcan attempts at batting, though, as he can give the ball superhuman velocity ...
Timo, kind of tough on Data's catcher, don't you think?

TOFTT indeed.

:)

Yeah, poor Nog. If Data was pitching he wouldn't make it past the second inning. :p

Yeah, they should have added Odo to the team as a catcher and used the holodeck to create an umpire.

I absolutely adored this episode - I actually recently requested a Niners ball cap for my birthday, hope the wife remembers...

I don't think Data would have been enough of a threat to win the game on his own. Given the other Niners' poor hitting in the game, Data would probably only have come to bat 3 or 4 times, with no one else on base every time. So even if Data hit a home run every time, that would only amount to 3 or 4 runs versus the Vulcans' 10. Data would have to also scale back his superhuman abilities. He could almost certainly cover most of the field by himself, and even stop home runs by jumping high enough to catch them, but that would do real violence to the integrity of the game, and I don't think even Sisko wanted to win that badly. If he did, he'd probably have recruited more Klingons to his team instead of his friends. I bet he could have found several Klingons who'd be willing to play. Worf certainly seemed to be getting into the game (Death to the opposition! ROFLMAO).

I agree as well. I'd imagine if the Vulcan team had to face Data, they'd simply intentionally walk him to first every time so they wouldn't have to deal with a guaranteed hit. Rather take the one base than risk a double or home run.

I rather liked this episode as well, it was a much-needed breather episode, a good change of pace from the war arc.
