Taika Waititi to write and direct Thor 4

Looks like I was actually right in the first place and it isn't just a Snyder fans thing. One of the worst reviewed movies in MCU history. Beginning of the end of the comics movies golden age???

Yeah, the reviews I've seen thus far have not been positive.

Was someone expecting "failure?" That word gets thrown around way too much.

"Beginning of the end of comic book movies" if you believe some of the people posting in this thread. If 'Iron Man 2', 'Thor: The Dark World' and 'Eternals' didn't kill them I don't think an entertaining but not spectacular movie will either.

I keep waiting for the MCU to end but it hasn't happened thus far. So, yeah, I doubt this will be the straw that broke the camel's back.

My biggest thing is that expectations are strung up way to high. It's an all or nothing attitude that basically treats anything less than perfect as a "failure" is basically a recipe for disaster because it leaves no room for the films as you describe; a mildly entertaining film.

The MCU has never been "mildly entertaining" movies. They're must see ion opening night events, with opening night something similar to the super bowl. 3 straight MCU movies not evoking that kind of emotion is a complete failure by Disney. In the last few years they've managed to kill star wars, Pixar and now even the MCU is dying. It really is a disaster for the entertainment industry.

You see it in the Video Game world too where anything less than a 9/10 and a game is considered a failure.

Not really. It means they have to try harder. And put in effort rather than being rewarded for showing up. It's awesome news .

Tell us how Pixar and Star Wars are "dead".

It isn't Disney that's killed anything, it the entitled attitude of spoiled "fans".

No they weren't. Ant-man was not 'must see on opening night'. Guardians was not 'must see on opening night'. Dr. Strange was not 'must see on opening night'. Thor (1 OR 2) was not 'must see on opening night'.

The MCU has always been a mix of larger and smaller films (yes, smaller by mcu standards is not small per se), some of them very clearly far more hyped up than others.

What was the last time Pixar had a theatrical hit? They've been reduced to Disney plus content creation as a political thing inside Disney.

As for star wars - a new star wars movie release was seen as a religious experience before. Now? We can turn the TV on and just watch star wars an day on our own time. Star wars is dead.

Pixar has a movie in theaters right now. It's opening weekend was higher than some of the older, well-liked Pixar films like Coco or Ratatouille. And it is sitting at a 190m total after less than three weeks of release.

Also 'we can turn on the tv and watch Star Wars any time' is the exact opposite of 'Star Wars is dead'.

That's $190M worldwide. Which means it stands to lose an awful lot of money.

"Opening weekend" is a curious statistic to rely upon, since it is almost exclusively a reflection of the advertising campaign. Yes, it's good to have a good opening weekend. But a lot of flops had great opening weekends and then fell off the chart.

No. Star Wars is no longer a "religious experience" which is an absurd standard to begin with. Any franchise that exists for as long as Star Wars has cannot afford to be a constant mountain top style experience. That's unreasonable. That's like expecting your marriage to always have the same thrill an excitement as the honeymoon. If that's the expectation then you will be disappointed.

Being able to have Star Wars on TV is actually quite the positive, given the success of shows like the Clone Wars. The standards for things like Star Wars, MCU and such are unreasonably high. As I said this is not a failure.
