Taika Waititi to write and direct Thor 4

Some day people will stop paying attention to early reviews and actually make a judgment of their own when they see a film instead of just going down hysteria lane.

But today is not that day, alas.
Um... if you're not using reviews to determine whether to watch a movie, how do you determine what to watch?

Honestly I will watch any superhero movie, but the reviews adjust my expectation in advance, so I know whether to look for the good things or bad things.

Casting, writer(s), director(s), basic premise...a little thing called a trailer. Hell, I know some people who don't even do that last one and still can make educated choices about what films to watch.

Um... if you're not using reviews to determine whether to watch a movie, how do you determine what to watch?

I rely on the judgment of my Mom, my relatives and my friends. We have similar tastes in movies/tv. If they watch something and recommend it, I'll usually give it a shot.

Looks like I was actually right in the first place and it isn't just a Snyder fans thing. One of the worst reviewed movies in MCU history. Beginning of the end of the comics movies golden age???

"One of the Worst reviewed Films" is still over 70% as of right now, and the MCU is solid enough that only three movies are under that, and only one MCU movie ever has been rated Rotten (Eternals). There are six DCEU films below 70%, and five of them are Rotten, including the only two Snyder films that actually made it to theaters (MoS and BvS).

There is literally no evidence that the "comic book movie golden age" is anywhere near ending. No Way Home made apparently 1.8 Billion dollars worldwide, and Multiverse of Madness over 900 million, both without China. Shang Chi, which opened while we were still pretty much in full pandemic (not that we still aren't, but it was back when most people would still acknowledge it) made over $400 million, also without China. So, unlike some mega franchises that need China's box office to make money (Transformers and Fast & Furious come to mind), superhero movies are doing great even without that huge market.

The only MCU films in recent history that maybe didn't make much money (if we include the probably marketing costs) might be Black Widow and Eternals. But Black Widow has premiere access numbers that we don't know, and both films were fairly low rated MCU films (but only Eternals was Rotten) that released during pandemic times. You can't count Sony's low effort, reheated shit like Morbius against superhero films in general (and even then, Venom 2 still made over 500 million, even with worse reviews then the already poorly reviewed first film).

The only (in my opinion) legitimately great superhero movie that has financially failed recently was The Suicide Squad, which released during the pandemic and doesn't seem to have made its money back. But the film itself was great, and WB/DC was apparently happy enough with it to give James Gunn at least two spin offs, and Peacemaker is getting at least a second season. This also all happened while WB was (and still is) in a huge flux behind the scenes.

So, yeah, comic book multimedia stuff in general is doing just fine, and Snyder's obsessed DC fans are basically not a factor in anything but review bombing and generally being obnoxious.

I'm similar. I NEVER watch a movie on opening weekend. I wait until after the first weekend to gage everyone's reactions. That's why Top Gun and Elvis are on my must see list and Jurassic World is on my "wait to stream" list. The general consensus on Thor seems to be if you enjoyed Ragnorak then you'll enjoy Love and Thunder so it's Disney Plus for me on that one.

This wasn't directed at me, but I'm responding anyway.

Whether or not I want to see a movie is determined by a combination of whether or not My interest is piqued by the trailers, whether or not I have preexisting interest in the source material (if it's an adaptation), and whether or not I'm interested in the concept based on taglines or sa plot synopsis.

Critical reviews mean absolutely jack-**** when it comes to a film, television series, or novel and my interest in said things.

I used to go to opening night preview showing for all MCU movies, but the combination of covid, the crowds and the fact that I'm not as young as I used to be keep me from doing it anymore.

I do look at reviews for out of curiosities sake, and for movies I'm unsure about, but I still tend to use the reactions from people here, more than anything when I'm not sure about movie.
I've loved a lot of movies that got horrible reviews, so I don't use them as my sole decision maker.
As for what does determine whether I'll see a movie, it's mostly down to the director, and cast or if the story sounds interestin or if the trailer catches me eye.
I also only tend to see the SFF movies in the theaters, things that have a lot of unique visuals that you really need to see on a big screen to get the full impact. Anything smaller scale, just character based dramas or comedies, or smaller thrillers, I usually save for the streaming servies.

Eh, they still have me around, to do the internet's dirty work on here! I do get banned often though.
You're just annoying. The other folk are completely intolerable.;)

Anywho, the Marvel Studios Legends episodes for Thor, Jane Foster and Valkyrie are up on Disney+. At 11 minutes, the Thor episode is the longest Legends episode yet.

Exactly.
The problem with that is that generally people here seem to like everything lol

The extreme negativity of the internet has not yet infected this place.
I'm generally not a fan of comic book films in general. I just don't harp on it. The internet is negative enough.
