Thought I'd try something different. It's not done and it's just a rough 1st version.

Thanks The Axeman,

The scale is off a little. I just eyeballed the dimensions. And the vertical stabilizer is too short by maybe half a metre. Plus there's all the engine and anti-grav stuff that has to go on the bottom.

This little bugger is a lot of work.

As for dirtying it up. I have no idea how to do that in sketch-up... Any thoughts on it?

Or a Death Star... Because shooting Womprats in Beggars Canyon is just like attacking a giant man made satelite... Apparently Beggars Canyon is riddled with turbo lasers :P

sandpeople with blaster carbines. same thing. :bolian:

Nice job! Unlike some people who claim other's work as there own, your Sketchup abilities are definitely improving.

I honestly wouldn't have guessed that was Sketchup, it's very well presented and rendered. I take it Sketchup doesn't allow for image maps then?

hey very nice work there, might dust off my sketch up and have a ago at something again now I've got a bit more time on my hands

I hear version 8 will have much improved texture support. Version 7 is pretty useless for organic forms. No UV mapping.

I have also seen a growing trend of model creation in Sketchup due to it's speed (you can really get major forms done quickly), then importing into better programs for polish work/animation.

Thanks for all the compliments fellows.

I find that using the lighting/shadows feature makes a model so much more presentable. It really makes a huge difference between it looking cartoon-like, and more realistic.

I'd like to actually get something where I can texture and light the models, but I haven't had much success to date. Also my computer is slow as an old lady sleeping.

Anyway- I've been so freaking busy the past couple of days, but I get to play with it tonight and tomorrow. I'll get some more up soon. Of course you can see larger versions of the ship on my wordpress...

It took a lot longer to do these bits then I'd like to admit. Running some plumbing and starting the anti-grav unit... If this rough version is taking this long, I can't wait to start the next one! :)

Yeh, but lyke... da fing is... dis ain't Star Trek.

An' lyke... I ain't bovvered.

Not much to add today... I'm not too happy with the underside.

There's still a tonne of work to do. More greebly pipes and hoses. The sleds on the folding wings. Just more...

It's really coming along! How far do you have to go before you start coloring it? Or are you going to add color?

Thank you.

I am not going to bother adding colour to this model as it's just the test version to see how I want to build the next one. That said, I will be adding colour to the next.

Where are you getting your references for all the details on the underside?

I have one of the Star Wars pictorial guides and there's a single image of the Skyhopper in it. Unfortunately one image isn't enough to go by. I know that a lot of the underside is incorrect because I'm guessing.

I'll be starting the next version this weekend with the proper dimensions.

Of course I'm always open to source suggestions or ideas.

My next ship after this will be a Y-Wing. I've written out all the dimensions already so I'm really looking forward to starting that one.
