Sybok: Dead or Alive

Sybok's assumed dead in STAR TREK: V, but for obvious reasons, his actual fate remains ambiguous. Ambiguous, at best. What is your position on whether he survived the events of The Final Frontier and if you suspect that he hadn't died, what do you suppose his eventual outcome was?

I don't think that he had the chance to transfer his katra before his 'death'. If so, it happened off-screen. That leaves certain possibilities.

He might have found out how deep its pain ran, & ended up like Zefram Cochrane or Will Decker, all up in some funky space being's personal space. We don't know wtf that explosion was. Could've been that entity's version of an orgasm

Since the chances that we’ll ever see Sybok again are almost nonexistent, he’s pretty much dead as far as the people that matter are concerned.

Everything besides camping at Yosemite, has all the signs of a Tennessee Whiskey and Baked Bean fuelled dream.

So who knows if Sybok existed or not. One for Discovery to answer.

Unless Katra's can also be transferred with a Vulcan high five hand salute, the scene as filmed seemed to make it pretty clear he and the entity are dead, Jim.

As I see it, Sybok's surviving a direct (!!!) attack by a photon torpedo could've been most easily achieved ... in any number of intriguing ways. His adventures could've continued ... only, this time, armed with a new attitude because of his "god" encounter ... a new approach to setting people free. The possibilities are without limit. For example:

Considering his mind-connection abilities with the creature from TFF, he could've easily been in contact with the Thalosians. Had Sybok become "... a mass of dying flesh" as Vina was, surely, they could've had him rescued and delivered to their planet, to live out a Life of Illusion. But I prefer that he survived with his body -- and his pride -- intact. Blackened & dischevelled, but ready for more adventures ...

I always assumed Sybok was "absorbed" unpleasantly by the evil energy being.

If that was the (alien that inspired the) devil / Old Testament Wrathful god, then for sure he is in a literal hell....

I wonder who imprisoned him?

My theory is one of Shatner's rock creatures saved him. Just because he didn't have the budget to show them doesn't mean they weren't their.
