SW blu-rays have changes to the films again

Not that I really care, but do we know if there are any more changes to the prequels beyond the Yoda thing?

Or is it basically just the OT that he's mucking around with again?

Here is another leaked video that no one has mentioned yet. I think it is the best change yet.

Now this is the most pointless change of all:

You just know that George had a nightmare one night, woke up in a cold sweat, picked up his red phone to ILM and declared, "THE DOOR!!! THE DOOR ISN'T BIG ENOUGH!"

Knowing how literal-minded Lucas has become, he probably thought we needed an explanation for how the Rancor monster got inside.

The next version will have a scene where one of Jabba's servants brings in an animal for the Rancor eat, so we know where the big bone comes from in the cave.

And of course we don't want to see any poor little animals killed, so the frog-thing in front of Jabba's palace will have to spit his lunch back out.

In TPM, the DVD edition has an added Anakin/Shmi scene ("Be safe" "I will, mom"), an extended pod race (An even more extended version is in deleted scenes) and a long-necked alien selling alien frogs.

AOTC has some changes as well. A deleted scene of Padme comforting Anakin after his slaughter of the Tusken Raiders is added back in. Also Padme's reaction to the clone trooper after waking up from her fall has different audio.

ROTS gets rid of the traditional Star Wars scene transition wipe to Vader's arm.

There is one thing I wish that was added back to ROTS: Yoda landing on Dagobah. The story behind this is that Lucas didn't like the long ending of Lord of the Rings, so he trimmed down the ending to his trilogy.

The Special Edition that was released in theaters was the best version. I had no problems whatsoever with it. But sadly, I can't even get that version on DVD or bluray.

While I do have problems with that version (mainly Luke's scream in TESB), it's still not as bad as the 2004 changes, and now these bizarre alterations, and I agree that being able to at least get the 97 versions would be a small consolation.

I've basically given up. I'm voting with my dollars. I'll watch my VHS and LD versions of the originals, and I'm going to venture into those dark corners of the internet for the fanmade restorations of the originals that are 16x9.

I might pick up this Blu set down road but only used and cheap, for the deleted scenes and such.

There is nothing holding Lucas back from releasing good versions of the originals. When they first announced the LD transfer DVDs a few years back, noted film preservationist extraordinaire Robert Harris immediately offered his services and sources to have properly restored versions done. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that Fox studios has a copy of the originals secretly stashed away. Don't be fooled by comments about costing too much to restore. There's films that are in far worse condition, and far less popular (think about all the horror schlock that gets restored and released on DVD and Blu) that get good versions released.

Ugh, I'm having flashbacks to the TheForce.net boards from back then. There were posters so far up Lucas' ass they tried to defend the non-anamorphic LD transfers by saying that any movie made before 1997 couldn't be properly done in 16x9. This was like 2006 mind you, with thousands and thousands of pre 1997 movies on DVD in good versions (not to mention movies made before 1977).

I don't know if that would do them any good. Do they have any rights over the films? Doesn't Lucas Film own the movies? Maybe not Star Wars, but certainly the others. FOX was just the distributor. I can't see them legally able to do anything with any hidden copies.

By this point, even if an HD version of the original was released, I'm not sure I'd be able to enjoy it the same way anyway.

The magic and innocence that characterized those movies for so long has been almost completely lost by this point-- both by the constant changes and the sad realization that they were probably only that good originally because of the comprimises that Lucas was forced to make-- and it's just hard to watch without being constantly aware of the larger, more mediocre saga as a whole.

The 3D version in 2016 will have a deleted scene showing it from birth to now.

A mini movie within a movie

That will make us more sympathetic towards it when it get's it's head crushed by the door.

Is it confirmed that he changed the "You're lucky you don't taste very good" line?

I just can't understand why Lucas would change something like that.

I liked that line.

It's been reported that now before being hit by the stun-ray in ANH Leia yells, "Don't taze me, bro!"

Forgive my aging brain; what scene is that from? And where did you hear it had been changed?
