Word travels fast, I suppose. Glad you guys liked it. The fast pace was mostly due to the 15 minute time limit. I ended up cutting out a lot of exposition (why the Aliens were so interested in the planet, technobabble, that sort of thing).

my one major nitpick: When the Captain pulls out the TOS Type II hand-Phaser; and the Vulcan character even mentions it's an antique - yet the VFX and Sound Effects are STILL for a 24th century style phaser when it's fired...:wtf::shrug:

Well obviously it has a 24th century power cell placed within the vintage casing. :)

I really liked it. However was there a reason why the Captain abandoned ship before the rest of the crew? I think your next fan film should feature his court martial for having lost the Enterprise.

Alas...there is only so much you can fit into 15 minutes. In my original script the Captain was under investigation for inconsistencies in his report from my previous fan film: Survivor. I had scenes set in the interior of the ship during the space battle to the effect that the Captain was going to go down with the ship until he found the Vulcan crewman injured and dragged him to a shuttle. Time/budget led to a more linear approach.

I like the idea of a court martial. Gives me somewhere to go with the next one! Thanks.

As for the sound effect. I think the 24th phaser drowned out the 23rd phaser on the sound track. I used the same sound effect from Wrath of Khan for the "antique" but mostly because I liked it better than the next gen type 2 phaser.

Well, I also assume you haven't seen (or paid attention to) a lot of TOS because in addition to the sound effect sifference - the beam color should have been blue (if on stun) or red (if on kill) ;)

Other than that I enjoyed both the characterizations and the story.

I have. The color of the beam was deliberate because it just looked the best. I wanted it to be similar to the Star Trek movies. We experimented with blue and it just wasn't working. I've seen TOS multiple times (most recently on the yearlong quest to view all of trek). Obsession, City on the Edge of Forever, and Where No Man Has Gone Before are some favorites.

Was going to watch it all chronologically, but after TOS and the movies...the call of DS9 was too tempting to ignore. So saving TNG for last I devoured DS9 within a couple of months (for the first time since it aired) and was promptly blown away by what I think is the crowning achievement of the Star Trek Universe.

Currently struggling to get through Voyager...
