Survivor: Redemption Island Discussion (Spoilers)

I stumbled upon this the other day when flippin through channels. I was not going to watch it because I wasen't fond of last season and gave it up after a few weeks. I saw Russel who is my favorite and I was hooked. I like the redemption island factor, very cool. I like Kristinia and I like Franzia too. I'm disapointed that they trusted Phillip, but it sort of seemed he was the only other one to make an alience. Rob has the girls licking his balls, they do realize he's mmaried right? We didn't really get to see much of the other tribe. I do want to see Russel and the redneck get into it. I think Russel is RETARDED for using the same strategy for the third time in a row. Hey Russ, don't trust the young girl. I don't think Phillip really understood what was going on, Kristinia will still have to keep an allience with him, otherwise she will be gone after she uses the idol. I hope to see Frodo come back from redemption island. I think Kristinia will have to somehow convince Phillip to keep the allience and turn one of Rob's cronies against him in order to survive. So the way redemption works, in theory, if someone gets voted off and someone else wants that person to come back, then they vote a weaker player off in order for the other person to win and come back. That is presuming that the same tribe loses the challenge twice in a row. This looks to be a good season, I hope Rob goes soon and Russel wins, but I won't hold my breath.

My understanding is that only one person (during the entire season) will be able to come back from Redemption Island. Francesca would have to win every duel of the season to make it back into the game. The final person to get sent to Redemption Island, though, might have to only win one duel to get the privilege of being the one person sent back to the group.

I thought it would be more like where, once another castaway shows up, they duel, and whoever wins the duel goes back while the loser is permanently eliminated, and then it begins again. Someone else gets voted out, they go to Redemption Island, the next person gets voted out, they duel, etc.

Nah. I think snaploud is right. In the end, only one person is going to return to the game (probably after the merge).

I've never understood why when people get the idol one of the very fist things they do is run off and tell someone.

Yeah, especially in the first three days of the game. I mean it's stupid to tell someone in the first place, but to tell them now when you don't know where your loyalties lie is idiotic and insane.

I think people naturally get a bit panicky on this show. It's hard for a person to feel in control on Survivor, and the easiest way to feel in control of a normal social situation is by telling a "big secret." Everybody gathers around and feels special by being included. That's why gossip is such a big part of social interaction.

Yeah, but it's such a huge mistake. The risk of being exposed in having the idol turns a big advantage, having a get out of jail free card, into a liability, being instantly labelled target #1. And if they can't get you, they'll get your closest ally. You never know what'll happen, it's possible her standing could have improved over the next three days (or six if they win the challenge) sufficiently so that someone else is on Rob's hitlist - Phillip for example; now she's in the shit. I would almost rather not have the idol than everyone knowing I do.

Yes. The other thing I don't get is why people deliberately ostracize themselves early in the game. Hell the time spent alone trying to find the idol just an hour into the game is probably time better well spent hanging around the various groups so they don't decide you're on the outs. She got the idol and then she observed Rob walking around with various people and just stared at him.

Sorry, but no. This is a social game, you can't just sit there by yourself. You need to constantly be shifting around and just bullshitting with people at the start. Unless you have someone who does something ridiculously stupid in the first few days at camp or a challenge(or be very bad and weak) the person most likely voted out is the one who doesn't really get around to talking with everyone and thought of as an outsider.

Jeff Probst: There's a new rule, no crying in Redemption Island.

This is my understanding as-well. My 2 cent would be that whoever that is voted out next. Let say ..Russell tribe lost*.. and they vote out the weakest link. I would say petite Stephanie is the weakest. So after Stephanie is voted out she would have to duel with Fran to stay in the game. The winner would stay on Redemption Island and wait for next person who is voted out. This would continue until the merge most likely. Whoever that is left standing on Redemption Island will return into the game.
So bottom line only 1 player will return to the game from Redemption Island..

* I have no clue if Russell tribe will lose or win next immunity challenge.

That makes more sense. It would be cool though to see it the other way around though. So Russel gets kicked off, Russel goes to redemption Island. Someone else gets voted off, Russel beats them, Russel comes back. Next time Russel gets kicked off again, so on and so forth. It would make for a looooong game, but interesting. I think this other way will be interesting too. It will take some stragergizing as to who you want to see go to redemption island and who you want to come back in the merge.

I agree that it's usually not smart. I'm just saying that it's human nature to try to be accepted, and talking about a "big secret" provides a temporary relief for many people.

Of course, not talking about the idol also has it's downsides (as far as your alliance trusting you goes)...

Aaaaargh, I knew there was something I wanted to watch tonight! :scream:

Guess I'll have to watch this ep on the website, too.
