Or at least a tubular "forcefield" extending into outer space like a giant smokestack.
That was totally the plot of an SCE story set on Venus.

Giant magnets. That's the only way.
I think we should enclose the dome, fill it with llamas
Silvercrest, how about a compromise design? Giant magnetic llamas!
Much like your equally absurd pyramid to "orbit" idea, a "dome" to contain a volcanic eruption is far beyond our engineering skills. Not to mention the thing would have to be enormous to cover the entire "super volcano" of the Yellowstone area.
Taccy, it's obvious, the giant magnets (or giant magnetic llamas) will produce a varying magnetic flux that will interact with the nonferrous magma and polarize it.
Obviously, the magnets (or magnetic llamas) will have to be placed in such a way that the magma is polarized perpendicular to the weakness and vents, thereby forming a magmamagnetic barrier.
Now apologize for calling magnets off topic.
Depends. Could we position the dome in such a manner that it would end up flying towards New Jersey? How will people feel about an enormous dome flying through the air in a random direction?
I say we just tun yellow stone into the largest Geothermal plant EVER!!!! By Extracting thermal energy from the Caldera it will cause it to solidify and remain intact longer before any eruption, there is probably enough thermal energy there than could be tapped to power the whole United States for the next 100+ years!!!!! Just start drilling into the caldera and extracting the plentiful heat energy and as a side benefit it will prevent the supervolcano from going boom!
