Surviving A Yellowstone Eruption

Taccy, it's obvious, the giant magnets (or giant magnetic llamas) will produce a varying magnetic flux that will interact with the nonferrous magma and polarize it.

Obviously, the magnets (or magnetic llamas) will have to be placed in such a way that the magma is polarized perpendicular to the weakness and vents, thereby forming a magmamagnetic barrier.

Now apologize for calling magnets off topic.

Much like your equally absurd pyramid to "orbit" idea, a "dome" to contain a volcanic eruption is far beyond our engineering skills. Not to mention the thing would have to be enormous to cover the entire "super volcano" of the Yellowstone area.

How about we build a giant pyramid to orbit over the supervolcano thus killing two birds with one stone!

AG. You're trolling. Quit it.

...and other get a pass when equally harebrained schemes are promoted?? Very well, Jadz. I see how it is here.

You know, if you fed the llamas a diet with high concentrations of ferrous iron, then rubbed a magnet back & forth on it (like magnetizing a screwdriver) you could get them to be magnetic.

Could someone please workout what effect such a dome would have on the weather of the region surrounding it?

Will the bison need thicker coats?

More fun if it shatters and you get large pieces of dome material flying in random directions.

Though if it didn't shatter and landed just right you'd have one hell of a pollution deterrent.

I say we just tun yellow stone into the largest Geothermal plant EVER!!!! By Extracting thermal energy from the Caldera it will cause it to solidify and remain intact longer before any eruption, there is probably enough thermal energy there than could be tapped to power the whole United States for the next 100+ years!!!!! Just start drilling into the caldera and extracting the plentiful heat energy and as a side benefit it will prevent the supervolcano from going boom!

I don't know anything about anything, but I like this idea.

What are llamas doing in Yellowstone? Taking jobs away from decent hardworking wildlife? Send them back to where they come from.

Seriously? To survive this I'm suggesting you build a really big bomb shelter with five years supply of everything you'd need in it. Plant genetically engineered plants designed to survive in the post Big Badda Boom era for food when you come out and you're all set.

Alternatively drop an asteroid on Yellowstone on the theory the after effects of an asteroid strike are more survivable than the caldera going off.

So...are we all pretty much screwed when Old Faithful blows, or is it just we lucky few in Canada and the United States?
