Surprising celebrities you've met

The only celebrity I can recall meeting was Eric Cantona and that was about 15 years ago at the airport. My friend was more interested than I was as we were supposed to be getting to our plane at the time

I've met a few celebs here and there but my best memory was around late 2002 or soemtime in 2003 right after Edge did two long, and VERY good extended match series with Kurt Angle and Chris Jericho. Met him in a bar after a show and we talked for quite a while and I had a blast. Really nice and humble guy. He was a HUGE Hulk Hogan fan growing up and I am a HUGE Ric Flair fan so we good naturedly argued about who was better. :>)) I told him that his series of matches with Benoit and Angle were the best series of matches I'd seen since Flair - Steambot, which are the gold standard in wrestlign matches and he was quite appreciative of that compliment. My best memory of the conversation though was we discussed the merits of being a heel or a face and as a Hogan fan he really wanted to be a big time face but I said I was 100% convinced his best role to play was a heel as he just had "it" when it came to bringing an extremely believable cockiness that brings out the fan to really boo him and he's BY FAR had his best successes as a heel. Easily one of, if not the, top heel WWE has had for a number of years. He's on a bit of a babyface run now but hopefully it won't last too long as he's just too damn good as a heel to stay a face for too long.

BTW- for the most part WWE personalities are pretty nice and approachable. Met a bunch over the years and I can't say I've ever had someone be a real jerk/bitch to me. The Divas have an especially large amount of graciousness, class and patience as they put up with more crap than the men from fans and are always great to the fans.

Zachary Smith: LOVE the Cloris Leachman story! She sounds like a total C-word. I mean, who the hell orders a goddamn SALAD at a movie concession counter?
. . . I was just at a convention this weekend. Who did I meet who was an unbelievably nice guy, but Kato Kaelin. Yeah, the OJ Simpson guy.
Does Kato Kaelin really qualify as a celebrity? I mean, it's been fifteen years since he had his fifteen minutes. Besides, his name sounds like something you take for diarrhea.

He did have his own table at the convention. He does have a radio show, I think. No, he's not up there with Mickey Rooney, but to give credit where credit was due, yes, he was very nice.

When I was a kid, they used to film the show Knotts Landing near my house. I used to go down and watch them all the time. I'd chat it up with the actors. Michelle Lee, Don Murray, and Joan Van Ark were the firiendliest people with the neighborhood kids. Never told us to bug off or anything, even though we may have been a real pain at times. Sometimes we'd have the opportunity to really engage in real conversation. Made a real impression on a 10-ish year old kid.

When Muhammad Ali was getting ready for the Ken Norton fight, in which he got his jaw broken, he ran around the neighborhood with us kids. One day while my cousin was babysitting us Walter (Clyde) Orange the other lead singer of The Commodores, he sang lead on Brick House on the live version he and Lionel Ritchie traded verses, cam over for breakfast one day. I was in the studio with Ritchie when he laid down some vocal tracks for Sail On before he left the group. Vice President Smokey, they were big on titles in Motown's headquarters was a nice guy. I never ran into him when he was using drugs.

Today I deliver mail to a couple of Grammy winners and see a frequent Trek guest star/character actor walking his dog. The only celeb I've run into with any attitude was one of the Jericho TV series stars.

I met comic writer Mark Millar last summer at the Chicago Comic Con. Before I met him, I thought he was a huge jerk just by how he came across in articles. I couldn't be further from the truth. He was extremely fan friendly and appreciative (something I see less and less in the comic book publishing world), and he didn't take himself very seriously at all. My opinion of him did a complete 180.

Michael Rosenbaum and Tom Arnold for a couple charity videos for this celebrity hockey challenge for the ronald mcdonald house here in seattle, most likely will do another one again this year

But I think my greatest experience was that I got the chance to hang out with former UFC heavyweight champion Minotauro Rodrigo Noguera and went with him and his entourage out clubbing, went onto his party bus and rolled on downtown to Seattle to this club called Venom, him and Anderson Silva were up for a seminar, but Anderson didn't come out. Another time I saw Rich Franklin at the airport, we were both waiting for our ride after we got out of the baggage claim. All experiences were pretty cool.

Well, the best one to my memory is probably Brandy. She's from my hometown, and back when Moesha was still running new episodes, she and her family were in the local Blockbuster chatting away loudly in the public. They had the newest issue of Rolling Stone in front of them, and they were railing on everything Michael Jackson was doing wrong in a professional sense (to the point that it sounded very, very personal and not just idle conversation).

So, I couldn't resist; I had to chime in. Of course, I had no idea who the hell Brandy was. I don't mean that I failed to recognize her; I literally had no idea there was a singer called Brandy and had never heard of Moesha.

Anyway, I leaned in and said, "How can you talk about Michael Jackson like that? You're acting like you know him or something.". Brandy then looks at me and says, "Well, I'm Brandy.". I respond, "Well, I'm Daniel; and I wouldn't talk about the man like that."

Brandy then got really pissed off and stormed out of the front door with her family in tow.

During the 2004 presidential campaign, I worked as a canvasser for the DNC. One day, I happened to knock on Karl Rove's door. He very politely indicated that he was a Republican, told me he was glad to see a young person involved in politics, and wished me well. At the next door, an anxious Britisher suggested I skip the house I'd just left, as it belonged to Karl Rove. The name sounded familiar (Rove wasn't yet very well-known), so I looked it up when I went home that night. I was surprised to find that Rove was known best for his ruthlessness and unfriendliness toward political opponents; I saw nothing of that at his door.

God, this is hysterical! You repped for the DNC to Karl Rove at his door????:guffaw:

Last year at Polaris we did some partying with Michael Hogan (Tigh) from BSG. Awesome guy, very fun to hang out with and he parties as hard as Col. Tigh did (but he's a lot nicer).

A total class act, everybody loved the guy.

Does Kato Kaelin really qualify as a celebrity? I mean, it's been fifteen years since he had his fifteen minutes. Besides, his name sounds like something you take for diarrhea.

:guffaw:

My one celebrity encounter was meeting Robin Curtis on my 24th birthday in 1994 at a Star Trek convention. My mom had arranged it in advance, and when Robin and I were introduced to each other, we spent several minutes talking before she went on stage. I wish I could remember about what, although she did say that she enjoyed meeting the disabled fans. Then later, at the autograph signing, she called me up on the stage with her (several guys grabbed my wheelchair and lifted me up there) and Robin led the entire convention in singing Happy Birthday to me.

Mark Goddard of Lost in Space was also there, but we didn't meet.

I met Mark Goddard at a comic book convention and found him to be a remarkably friendly guy. He was kind of in the back and at a table pretty much alone and I stood and chatted with him for probably a good 20 minutes. He was selling autographed photos but I don't buy such things and, to my surprise, he never even mentioned it. We talked about his show business career and he even reenacted a few scenes form an episode of "The Beverly Hillbillies" he'd been on after I mentioned it (just to make sure he knew I knew more about him than just his time on "Lost in Space"). He really seemed to enjoy talking about the good old days. He spoke kindly and fondly of Jonathan Harris (Dr. Smith) and talked about how everyone associated with the show was so very surprised that it was still generating interest nearly forty years later.

I've read accounts of others meeting Mark Goddard and finding him an irritable or an unlikable personality, fixated on selling autographs and wanting nothing to do with "fans" if they weren't buying something from him. This was NOT the person I met. I found him a genuine, likable and even enthusiastic person who enjoyed reminiscing and who never even mentioned trying to sell me something. I talked with him quite long enough that I'm sure he realized fairly early that I wasn't going to be spending any money but he didn't seem to care. He chatted away quite happily as if we were old friends just the same. A VERY decent and nice man, in my experience.

I've met a few celebrities, but probably the most memorable were Billy Idol (back in 1987), Johnny Depp (early '90s, were from the same area in Florida), and Marilyn Manson (numerous times in the '90s). I remember Billy Idol being very cool and friendly. I was working at a private resort in Miami and he was staying there, while touring. I commented on how awesome his set was, the night before. He excused himself and shortly returned with some cool shirts, pictures. Very cool dude.

I met Johnny Depp back when he was dating Kate Moss, at a local club that I frequented. He was very down to earth and would hangout and talk to everyone that didn't hound or hassle him. I remember Kate Moss was with him and hot (before she turned into a stick figure).

Marilyn Manson also grew up, and got his start, in the same area that I live in. He used to play locally at the same club I met Johnny Depp at (a club called Squeeze in downtown Ft. Lauderdale). I guy I went to high school with was in his original band and I'd always say hello to him and chat, when they played locally. He eventually left the band and I could see why. Manson was a total tool, he thought he was some sort of local god or something and was so rude and stuck up. Great musician, awesome performer, excellent show man and super intelligent but what an asshole. He and I actually got into a fight, at the same club, one night when he was just hanging out. He thought he could cut in front of several dozen people in the line at the bar and kept going on saying "you know who I am"? I told him if he was so special, why wasn't someone bringing him drinks and why was he even messing with the line at all.

I've heard that Manson is a total jerk from quite a few people. Its good to see that they arent Bsing me
The celebrities I have met are mostly at cons but a few stand out.
back in the 90's I had a friend who did extra work on Buffy the vampire slayer. Anyhow she got to know Seth Green pretty well. When were all at Comicon Seth was there and said hi to us. He seemed like a pretty nice guy but he was in a hurry.

I met Neil Gaiman at a signing once. He drew Morpheus on my leather jacket. He was super nice.

I had a friend years ago who was a child actor. His name was Taliesin Jaffe and we all used to hang out at Ren Faire and at various gothic clubs. He played the little blond kid in Mr Mom and was the baby in 2010 the year we make contact. He is now some bigwig in the anime world. I haven't seen him in 12 years but I guess he now qualifies as a celeb since he has a page on IMDB.com
I knew him as this weird kid who would hang his hand with a noose and wear bunny costumes to gothic clubs. He was a real hoot and a hell of a nice guy.

Probably the 2 nicest surprises were Burt Reynolds and Tom Cruise.
Burt was so friendly, very chatty, very charming.

Tom was very down to earth, friendly, took time to stand for a photo and chatted for a few moments.

I met Richard Anderson (Oscar Goldman, not Col. O'Neill) at the LA Auto Show many many years ago. We only spoke for a minute. He was very polite and asked if I was enjoying the show. I said I was there with my boyfriend (now-Hubby) and thought the cars were nice. I asked if he had done his character's singing in "The Student Prince." He said he hadn't and was surprised I knew the movie because it was old. I said it wasn't that old and he looked pretty unchanged.

... I was surprised to find that Rove was known best for his ruthlessness and unfriendliness toward political opponents; I saw nothing of that at his door.

I know him. He's a really, really nice guy on a personal level. Wouldn't want to go up against him politically, but socially, he's a sweetheart.

I've met a lot of celebrities. Not sure who was the most surprising, though. Maybe Rob Schneider -- he once tried to trick me into letting him look down my shirt (in a semi-professional situation, not at a party or anything like that), and I remember being surprised that he was no different in person than he was in the movies.
