Surely something good happened to you today

Made it home from Mom's --3.5 hrs drive. Had to take the long way around, but it was still shorter than my usual route--which is shorter I length but the nightmare construction that's going on makes it 45 mins longer. I'm a timid driver with NO sense of direction, so I was fairly pleased I managed to navigate on my own. Thank you, Google Maps!

At the hospital with my mom for her knee surgery, the other one. She finally got a room, so I'm here waiting for her to be brought in. Being told she's okay is not the same as seeing for myself. Been a very long day, but glad this was done so she can get on the way to getting some semblance of her life and independence back.

An old neighbor saw what happened to my house when it flooded. He knows a guy who was remodeling a rental house and was replacing the almost-new appliances so the neighbor got us a refrigerator, dishwasher, and microwave for free. He even brought them by and stored them in my garage since there still aren't any walls in the house.
Now I just have to hope that this new hurricane doesn't flood the "new" appliances.

The driver mirror for my truck came in today instead of Monday, so I was able to (after multiple attempts, frustrations, and invaluable assistance from my wife in several things, not the least of which was helping to keep my calm and not punching a wall) install it. Tested it out by driving to take care of an errand that was a fair distance on the highway. It didn't fly off and become a projectile, so it seems to be secure!

Also discovered a way to save about $150 over 6 months on the car insurance.

And I even found out why the sounds of the new update for my Mortal Kombat 1 game was not working, and fixed it. (To my surprise, the fix is NOT in the Video and Audio section, despite it being an actual audio problem.)

And, most importantly, my mom's recovery of this knee surgery is going more smoothly than the last, with the same amount of time passed. I think her recovery for this one will be better and faster... she sure as hell deserves a break at this point. She's suffered FAR too long as it is.

And Happy 37th Birthday, TNG! (Maybe the Great Bird of the Galaxy actually blessed this Trekkie today.)

I'd say it's been a good day.

One of the neighbor's dogs kept running up to me while I was watering the yard this morning. She's (he's?) the sweetest dog---a long-haired German Shepard. She ran across two lawns to just come cover and lean against me for pets. The owner apologized, came and got her but she broke free from him and ran right back. After she had her required petting, she walked back to her house. Made my morning. :luvlove:

Had a young woman in the shop today and while we were talking she was lamenting the fact that she just turned thirty.
I said that I would love to see thirty again; she looked at me and she asked how old I was. I asked how old do you think I was and she said thirty-nine and I smiled and said that I had just turned fifty-four last month and she complimented me on how young I looked for my age.

That's really nice.

I've had similar happen.

before my hair turned grey i looked a lot younger than i was. a lady in the radio station once asked me how old she was and i said 10 years older than me . she was delighted. then she asked me how old i was and i said 40 and she was pissed off. later i heard she'd gotten 50 a week earlier.

I guess this was good for me but I question the decision of the business. Saw a game on sale at Woot! so I bought it. Turns out I already own it so I file for a refund. They give me a refund but don’t want the game back. It’s a $35 game they can easily resell. Why wouldn’t they want it back?
