There's also a palomino gelding at the same place where the black mare is who I've been wanting to meet, and he was finally out when I by today, and I spent some time petting. The only problem was I was wearing a long sleeve shirt and he kept grabbing my sleeve, and I'm not sure if he was being agressive or just biting for the hell of it. One of the ladies who lets come over to pet her horse was also out, so I hung out with them for a bit. This was by far the most horse time I've gotten in quite a while.

Do horses whinny when contented?

Whinnying is more of a call to other horses, the other day at one of the stables a couple calling back and forth. I think it's usually more of an agitated or upset thing.
A nicker tends to be more of the contented sound.

A male Common Scoter on the canal today - first time I've seen one of those in real life. The bird book tells me they over-winter here so hoping to see it again.

More amazingly, a hawfinch - a bird on the conservation red list - just sitting on a wall, posing as though it was having its picture taken for a bird book. Really good look at a bird that's normally very shy.

I made $50 in tips simply by inflating customers low tires today. One customer reached into his wallet and handed me a twenty. I know that, per company policy, tire pressure checks are supposed to free/complimentary, however, I'm not going to turn down free cash when it's handed to me and I'm thankful that the store manager looks the other way.

I got a new Chevy truck yesterday. Had to do it... my old girl finally was about done after over 320,000 and almost 23 years. I had her for half of my lifetime.

It was kind of a good thing she crapped out when she did... it forced me to get a new one now than wait for early March, which would have been 23 years. Now that the auto workers pay is going to increase in a big way, it would have made any new truck past now FAR more expensive to buy.

One of my local walking neighbors had a quick conversation before I hit the library.
She asked my age. I decided to have her guess...then I did the same for her when she asked me in turn.
She said I appeared 78. Laughing, I replied ''I'm 57.''
I guessed she was 65, figuring she was older. I was right, but still off by 18 years.

Enjoy your new wheels!
