Surely something good happened to you today

You can always get the Bluetooth communicator on Amazon for only $229.95.
For $229.95, I at least want an AI Uhura screening my calls. Preferably referencing "Capt. Lax" as being otherwise occupied.

(I've been developing an entire script and storyline about Capt. Lax and his Quantum Chez Lounge.)

(OK, it's all just in my head for now but it's real to me.)

I've worked from home since I was 23 and most of the time I've been using second hand desks, for the last 3 years I've been using a 16.5x42 Ikea desk I got for free 20 years ago. Since new ownership confirmed work from home is staying I decided to treat myself and get something really nice, figuring I've paid my dues. Used some insurance money from my house burning down and ordered a fancy sit stand live edge spalted maple desk from a localish carpenter a little over a month ago. It turned out so nice they used it as a display model at a home and garden show and sold four more of them.

Picked it up today.

43 inches at the wide end 32 at the skinny end 62 long. 2 inches thick. My old desk fits between its hydraulic legs. It's gorgeous and should last, well, for the rest of my life and a lot more. Even if the hydraulics go I can swap in new legs to the slab. It cost waaaaayyyyyyy more than a desk should but I know from comparative pricing it was a fair price.

I plan on getting a dining room table from them as well once I buy a new house.

I want to see a picture!! I'd love to get a new desk like this. I can live vicariously.

Bad and good. My sister died a few days ago. I've been experiencing I guess "melancholy". Not exactly sad but I think about her all day and her life and all the times we had together and phone calls and things shared. She was a fucking great sister.

And I've been on the phone with cousins that I haven't connected with in years, and shared those feelings. That's the good thing.

I had a dream last night of being in our old house from the sixties with all my extended family in a chaotic mix-mash just doing our thing and making a mess. My dog was running around being adorable. A girl I dated in high school like 45 years ago was there loving the whole mess and left with me to just get away from it all.

She (the girlfriend) and I weren't together long but it makes sense she was there. Hi Kelly. Love you still. Goodbye Diane. Love you always. Fuckin dreams.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Your dream sounds wild, and I'm very glad you've got family around you for support.

Ignore the heavy breathing I just carried the damn thing up a couple flights of stairs

My condolences for your loss, @LaxScrutiny .
:) Thanks buddy.

Just to share a bit more about her: I've been told by several family members that she taught me my first words: "Johnny Bower." (She was 11 years older than me. Most Canadians my age would know why that means something.)

Not to ignore my mum who read to me and helped my reading, Diane saw my potential and had me learning to read her high school textbooks when I was around 5 or 6.

She was working as a social worker at a Hamilton Ont. hospital when I was out of high school and kind of lost in downtown Toronto. She'd have me come to her place on some weekends and others she'd come to T.O. and we'd spend an afternoon on the patio of the Black Bull on Queen W drinking beer and talking shit. Then we'd get up to no good.

She'd come pick me up and drive to numerous family gatherings or just visits across Southern Ontario. The road trip was usually more fun than the gathering.

She understood me and was everything you could ever hope for from a big sis. I'm old enough to know that people in my life die, and young enough to know I'll probably be the last one standing. I knew this was coming but of course it's a big deal.

So this isn't something good that happened today. This is something good that happened my whole life.

My sister died a few days ago.

I am sorry.

:klingon: Nice desk.

I finally have something really good to add!

I did not have Showtime as part of my cable package but wanted to see The Man Who Fell To Earth and NuDexter. Figured I would wait until the end of this month, start a sub beginning in June.

Then, amazingly, I saw an ad for a limited time offer to get a year of SHO at $5 a month, so I called em up to get it added.

After seeing how long I had been a subscriber they offered an alternate deal... I was asked if I would like 2 years of SHO FREE! Well yeah!

But then a snag occurred. My old "legacy" equipment would not allow the lowly worker to input the deal he had promised, even with Supervisor assistance.
I got transferred to the Top Men Section of Cable. Not only did they push the deal through, they added everything, upgrading me up to the Ultimate Package! Free! For as long as I keep this subscription active! And they knocked $5 a month off my bill to boot!

Now all I have to do is find time to watch heavens knows what all is included.

Had an absolute blast on the first day of my Chicago vacation.

Saw the Yankees pound the shit out of the White Sox at…oh, dear….
“Guaranteed Rate Field”. :guffaw:

Did NOT get involved in the fight that almost broke out on the subway afterward.
It'll always be Comiskey Park (and NEVER U.S. Cellular Field) even after it was rebuilt in 1991.
