Surely something good happened to you today

What I miss most about flip phones is the satisfying noise it makes when you snap it shut. It's almost like slamming the phone down. With smartphones, you just jab your finger at it. Not at all satisfying when you're really annoyed.
You know, you can snap it shut with a smug smile on your face and wink at your friend sitting next to you. Doesn't always have to be when really annoyed.

Well, that was nail-biting. I just won an online auction for the out of print 'Paul Simon: The Complete Album Collection' (12 Studio Album CDs, 2 Live Concert CDs + Music Video DVD) on eBay; brand-new, still sealed in box and I'm paying less than $50 plus shipping and handling. (Brand New on Amazon is $184+.) The money raised goes to a cancer research charity in England. I think I was up against a spam-bot, because every time I bid, it was counter-raised; so, I waited until the last second to place the winning bid and got it just under the wire. It should be here in a couple of weeks. And, I've never used eBay to bid on anything before.

If you've never used ebay before, you might not know this, but people can enter a maximum bid that they're willing to go up to, so if someone outbids their current bid, it will automatically increase up until it hits the maximum. So it probably wasn't a spam-bot, it was probably just the system auto-incrementing the other user's bid every time you submitted one. And then you managed to outbid the other user's maximum at the last second.

Congrats on winning the collection!

I've worked from home since I was 23 and most of the time I've been using second hand desks, for the last 3 years I've been using a 16.5x42 Ikea desk I got for free 20 years ago. Since new ownership confirmed work from home is staying I decided to treat myself and get something really nice, figuring I've paid my dues. Used some insurance money from my house burning down and ordered a fancy sit stand live edge spalted maple desk from a localish carpenter a little over a month ago. It turned out so nice they used it as a display model at a home and garden show and sold four more of them.

Picked it up today.

43 inches at the wide end 32 at the skinny end 62 long. 2 inches thick. My old desk fits between its hydraulic legs. It's gorgeous and should last, well, for the rest of my life and a lot more. Even if the hydraulics go I can swap in new legs to the slab. It cost waaaaayyyyyyy more than a desk should but I know from comparative pricing it was a fair price.

I plan on getting a dining room table from them as well once I buy a new house.
