Surely something good happened to you today

Today was my one year (!) performance review with the store manager and the district manager. I received high marks all around. When it came time to ask what I thought my raise should be, I went high knowing they would never agree to it and counter with lower raise that was more in line with what I thought they would offer. Imagine my surprise when they came back with a counter offer that was only .25 cents lower and .25 cents higher than I wanted. So, I got that, plus I'm now eligible for a matching 401K and profit sharing.

Also, I've been a bit down because my birthday (51) is coming up in August and for the first time I'm feeling old. I was talking with one of the women on my route who just had her birthday and I mentioned that my 51st was coming up. She looked at me and said, "51. I had you pegged at 36." Nice to know that while I might feel it, I don't look it.

Have you ever had one of those moments where it sudden dawns on you that you now live in the "high tech world" you used to only read out or see on scifi shows? I had a very busy day today--went for a physical with a new doctor and had a tetanus shot, blood work and bone density scan all in just a few minutes and didn't have to walk but a few feet from one to the other. I drove home in a car that alerts me if I cross the white line on the road without signaling. I checked into my gym using only my phone. At home, I watched a British TV show, when I live in Texas, with a click of my remote, and deposited a check into my bank account by simply taking a picture of it.

Every once in awhile, we should remind ourselves of how fucking cool this all is. :bolian:

I do hope that feature can be activated/disabled at the driver's discretion. Personally I always signal before changing lanes, but I sure as hell don't want a "nanny car" that acts like a prissy driving instructor.

LOVED today's Dilbert cartoon.

Aliens: WE HAVE COME FROM A DISTANT STAR TO DESTROY YOUR CIVILIZATION!
Tina the Tech Writer: Before we get into all that, what are your pronouns?
Aliens: ...somebody beat us to it.

:guffaw:
