Surely something good happened to you today

I wanted steak for dinner and I got steak for dinner, cooked to perfection, by me, served with Maris Piper chips, also made by me, and Colman’s English mustard. Side salad, still in the fridge, where it belongs.

And now my first beer since Monday.

Sounds good. What's Maris Piper Chips and how do you make them yourself?

Maris Piper is a potato variant that deep fries really well, crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Peeled, chopped in to long thing strips with my trusty cleaver, then fried twice, drained and served with salt and vinegar. Delicious.

There's a store that carries several types of potatoes. Next time I go there I'll ask if they have these.

I want to take a second to explain why I like my job.

For the Christmas party, we had a Yankee Swap. One of the gifts was a game called 'The Voting Game'. This is a game where you randomly select a category and everyone votes who at the table is the most representative of that card.

So somebody gave that gift, and later in the party we all played it. It was going on normally, people were teasing each other, and then a card came up. "Who is the person for whom a promise is like a lottery ticket?" Everyone looked around a table, and nobody wanted to vote for anyone. We talked about it and all agreed to vote for our old boss.

Nobody at my work thinks a promise from anyone else isn't a real promise, even for fun.

In Pokemon Go:

I went to a stop, got three 5km eggs, caught a handful of Totodile (one is over 700 cp) and 2 gifts and some items. Found out via searching my items that I do have a Mystery Box! So maybe it was able to send that over, even though I wasn't able to send things over.

Well dang... it worked! The trade doesn't have to go fully through to get the incense for Meltan. :) So anyone running into trade errors just go and catch junk and trade it for Meltan incense! (to trade from Go to Let's Go)

Got an email from my house management on Monday: the management had changed last January and they now noticed that the previous management had accidentially (really accidentially - they made a typo in their books, swapping 2 digits in a figure) overcharged me during their last year. I get a refund of about $120 and today it's already in my account =) This year starts pretty nicely :D

Bonus! :D

Being the nostalgia junky that I am, I thought I should write some memoirs, and I have been doing, and today I made some good progress, and recalled a girl that was once very important to me. And also my grandmas’s nicotine yellow net curtains, aggressive cats, circular power sockets and undrinkable tea.

Congratulations, auntie! :)

I did a little detour on my way to work today to collect a parcel from the customs office. I had ordered 2 cool books written by kids in Brooklyn who receive tutoring and help with becoming writers. I only read a few short stories yet but I totally love them! =)

Mouse scroll wheel well and truly works again. My previous attempts at simply blowing air into the wheel and case and jiggling the wheel were, ultimately, futile.

This time I removed the glides and unscrewed the body halves so I could really get in there.

It turns out there was about half a cat's worth of fur tangled in my mouse wheel's optical sensor.

Smooth scrolling up AND down now! No more fighting it until the next time my cats decide to fill it with their fur.

You don't happen to have time to fix my sewing machine, I presume? ;) It got stuck yesterday - the sewing head is completely blocked, as if it was welded into place. I suspect a problem with either the upright arm shaft or the bed shafts which means I have to dismantle the whole thing.
Good thing: it got stuck literally at the last 3 feet of a quilt - I can easily finish it by hand.
