Been so busy haven't had a chance to comment about the episodes much this season.
Really, really liked this episode. For the very first time, I actually liked Sam's flashback (which previously had been boring as all hell).
Loved Dean's comments about how Benny shouldn't underestimate Sam.
Really, really like Benny.
But I seriously, seriously want Benny do something that makes them have to put him down.
I wish Sam would bring up Ruby. Who went two years doing everything right for the world on the surface, and how much that betrayal cost them. Sam, who was blind to that threat, versus Dean who never trusted her. Sam really should be throwing that at Dean.
ANd let's just say, I really, really want to see Sam Gordon Benny.
One thing really, really bothers me about Benny, and that's Lenore.
Lenore was the first Vamp that we saw (even though she lead a whole community) who didn't fed on live humans. Yet Eve's presence in the world was enough to cause her to lose that bit of her humanity (even if she held out longer then the rest of her clan). Yet Benny resided for decades in a realm where Eve was all the time. A realm that Dean said brought out the true nature of yourself. Yet here we have Benny who manages to resist temptation so far that we know.
I just don't buy the logic in it.
Not that Sam has to be right, have no issue with Sam making mistakes (some of my favorite Sam arcs have been his mistakes). But I hate that so far this season seems to be Dean throwing in Sam's face everything he is doing wrong.
Sam didn't hunt, how dare he. He had responsibility.
Yet Dean didn't hunt for a year, we know this. He lived his own life.
Dean is betrayed because Sam didn't look for him.
Yet when Sam was gone, Dean knew where he was (Sam really did too, why the writers this season had Sam shocked that Dean was in purgatory, is utterly and completely unbelievable). Yet Dean never asked Castiel to try to go to Hell to save Sam (we have flashbacks of that it being Castiel's idea, even if he didn't get all of Sam). We also know that Dean always had the means to get to Sam (he had the keys to the deepest part of the Pitt.
Dean knew how hard it was to get into Purgatory, they spent two years covering it (with both the agents of Hell and an Agent of Heaven trying to, and the three guys, including Bobby trying to figure it.
Yet while Sam never thought anything wrong with Dean not opening a portal to hell to free him (not to mention any of the beings in Hell, nor did he want Dean to even risk angels doing it). Yet Dean is pissed that Sam didn't use his two opportunity's (only during solar eclipse) to open a portal to Purgatory risk everything getting to earth, let alone being able to find Dean.
This aspect of the story just is very difficult to swallow, as I can absolutely see Sam not mention it for a while (as he typically has held issues and not thrown them in Dean's face as much as Dean will. But we see Sam sticking up to Dean, except for these issues. THe issues that make no valid character sense.
But I like the forward progress on Sam not taking shit from Dean. I like that he is pushing back on Dean. But I still wish he would call Dean out on those two serious issues.
Also a little odd that they I don't think they have brought up Dean's being a Vamp, ie in either defense of Benny (for example, I know how hard it is to resist but it is possible), or to Benny (I know how hard it is, and I don't think you can resist forever). That type of thing.
