Damn, I wish this show had a budget. Really, really wish it had a budget.
Oh well it's a character piece and they did a fairly good job highlighting the differences between the characters.
Last week's thread I talked about Sam feels like he did when the pilot started (minus the hating of the hunting). No driven by anger and guilt over Jess's Death, No waiting to save others to save himself, not driven by the need to save Dean from Hell, not fueled by Demon blood and finally having a sense of empowerment over his own destiny, not hunting due to accidental freeing of Lucifer, not driven by fears of giving into Lucy, not soul less, not feeling guilt over what his soul less self did. Just a base level Sam who's only real issue is his psychotic break (and even that isn't motivating him to act in a different way).
Nice to see that was the writer's intent, and I wasn't just reading into things that weren't on the page.
Where as Dean is always feeling the guilt of his actions and how they impact others. He never really has pushed those out of his life, he just suppresses them. And yes Dean has always felt guilt over things that aren't his direct fault. Like other people don't make their own choices.
Besides the lack of budget (serious lack of budget) for this episode, I didn't really care for the portrayal of Osiris. Just not how I thought it would go.
I also didn't care for Sam the lawyer. Especially where he is trying to convince Dean that he didn't have reason to feel the guilt he felt. It wouldn't have convinced Dean, Hell it didn't convince me, and I know half the crap he feels isn't his fault.
I wanted Sam to do something that would actually reach Dean (see Fresh Blood's scene with Sam confronting Dean in the Hotel, see Bloodlust, where Sam calls out Dean for his Gordon worship). We needed to see Dean believe it.
We needed something of Sam admitting (and he has before in rare quit moments) how Dean didn't drag him into the hunting life by bringing Sam with him (Azazel took care of that, thank you very much), but that Dean saved Sam. Without Dean in those years what would have Sam become? Well Sam knows (thank You Gabriel). We should have scene something that pushed that.
Acting wise Jensen did great, Alona did well with her part (again how much more I like the actress when they aged her character with a little experience).
I though this was probably Jared weakest episode to date this season. Again the whole courtroom scenes were really weak for Jared.
