Supernatural 6x15"The French Mistake" spoilers/discussion thread

Awesome episode.

This was a really fun. I love seeing the boys in our universe. There were plenty of great in jokes like the multiple Impalas, Misha's name sounding weird at first, and the clip of Jensen Ackles' soap opera days. Ruby is still hot. I wonder if that was really Jared Padalecki house?

No the Eric Brady clip was absolutely perfect, something that would freak the hell out of Dean. Eye of the tiger not so much.

^^ I loved all of the egomaniacal paintings. :rommie:

This was fantastic. I'll need to watch it again to catch everything. There were too many gags to remember. :D

Misha was hilarious. "Ever... get... the... feeling... there... is... someone... in... the... back... seat...."

And I'm glad they made it so difficult for the Angels to access alternate universes; I was afraid this would open up a whole can of worms. And the discussion of "the supernatural" was interesting-- I wonder if anyone will complain that they said there is no god in our universe.

And Cass got the weapons. :bolian:

I liked the one producer-guy who dodged a bullet by just moving his upper body.

All the producer stuff was gold. I loved how little they cared about small things like the death of Misha ("did you hear that we made the cover of Variety?").

Also: "I don't think they know who you are..." :guffaw:

I have a question for you guys.

Some of the people in this thread gave me some advice about a month back to give this show a try. I have done that and so far have watched the first 4 episodes, which I enjoyed.

Do you guys have an ongoing thread for this show, where I won't have to read spoilers in order to discuss it? Because I went back about 7 pages and can't find anything like that...but perhaps I am missing it?

Anyway, good show, and I appreciate the suggestion! I'm going to keep going - definitely better than anything else on these days!

Other than the weekly threads there might have been an all encompassing thread from last year by Starbreaker when he went through the series--so you might want to go ahead and start a new one.

Supernatural has a habit of inserting smart bits as throwaway dialog that never get in the way of the primary story, but nonetheless make you think.

I too caught the stuff about "no god here" and the discussion over the supernatural or lacktherof. That, and the brothers talking about how they don't mean anything here, in our universe, because Supernatural is just a fiction with a small fanbase.

Can't help but feel it casts the show in a slightly different light moving forward, because the meta fiction has established Supernatural as taking place in a dimension of fiction and has now acknowledged that the underpinnings of its universe are not real - from our perspective. The angel pondering that there is no magic, no god, and a "universe of strings and pullies" was a little unsettling.

Of course, in a sense it screws the pooch with establishing this meta framework for the show's reality by murdering actors and half the production crew in "real life" ;) It would have been even more creepy if the brothers had departed the real world leaving it basically as they'd found it, so that production of the show could continue forward as we would expect it too.

I hadn't seen the show the last couple years--not a big fan of the war of the angels arc. I did like this episode alot though.

It reminded of some fairly famous Trek fanfic from the seventies. One story had some of the Enterprise crew finding themselves in a alternate universe where ST was a TV show and people were mistaking them for the actors who portrayed them (much like The French Mistake).

You can see my thoughts from a couple of different threads as I went through Seasons 1-5 last year. If you like these early season one episodes, you're going to love the rest. I almost gave up, but by the end of the 1st season, the series becomes beyond excellent. Everything just seems to click.

Apparently you're only allowed to create spoiler-loaded threads like this around here now. New threads for each episode is a big no-no for some silly, made-up technical reason. It's much easier to be a burden to you than to actually fix any real issue elsewhere.

There's just no need to clutter up a forum with several threads about the same show, especially if you're going to be watching several episodes a week like most people do. Besides, you're only going to get a handful of responses for episodes that are several years old. You're going to have better discussion with threads that encompass entire seasons or series. It's better just to post "no spoilers, please" and let people know where you are in the series.

Now if we could only have seen the actors scared to death in the "real" Supernatural world. I liked this ep but would have liked to have seen a very proper and shaven Bobby appear. That would have been very funny.

Yeah, I missed Bobby. I was hoping the actor "Bobby" would come off as some fastidious, well-dressed upper-class guy. That would have been fun.

Thanks Starbreaker, for your comments.

I'm a bit hesitant to start my own 'My Trip Through Supernatural' thread though. Too much pressure to come up with some sort of brilliant insight about each episode that will draw in comments from people who have talked about these episodes a billion times already.

Did you do 2 threads for all of S1 - S5 then? I guess that probably the first one is not even around any longer....I'd ask if would work for me to just bump those and comment off of your comments. :p

So what happens now to that other universe's Supernatural show now that there's been a mass shooting and a lot of cast and crewmembers are dead?

Justin Hartley takes over Castiel next season? Dawn Ostroff decides she owes it to the fans of The CW and sticks around one more year to oversee Smallville season 11 and the brand new fresh inventive show they're creating to replace the canceled Supernatural -- Dawson's Creek?

Well, the Castiel problem is easy enough to solve (story-wise). It's only a meat suit, and they've done that sort of thing before. It would suck for the fans (as Misha is always fun to watch), but it could be explained easily enough. Plus, Sera Gamble would still be around (even if Jensen and Jared have apparently never really heard of her before  ).
