Therein lies the plot hole that has fandom screaming. It doesn't make any sense. Better to fan wank that this was a low level demon that didn't understand how it works. All season long the story's been saying that it has to be DEAN and SAM in the final battle because they're brothers like Lucifer and Michael were brothers and they're destined and all that. This made absolutely zero sense. Lucifer could have done a body switch spell with one of his minions standing in for Sam at any time.I did find it odd that they don't actually need Sam's permission to use his body. If anyone can slide in there, getting past every tattoo and protective charm they have as if they didn't exist, why is Lucifer even remotely worried about the whole thing? The angels, too, for that matter.

In better news, next week's episode was released by CW to be prescreened by critics and they're loving it, saying it's classic SPN at its best. No more filler.
