Supernatural 5x12 "Swap Meat" discussion thread/spoilerish

I did find it odd that they don't actually need Sam's permission to use his body. If anyone can slide in there, getting past every tattoo and protective charm they have as if they didn't exist, why is Lucifer even remotely worried about the whole thing? The angels, too, for that matter.
Therein lies the plot hole that has fandom screaming. It doesn't make any sense. Better to fan wank that this was a low level demon that didn't understand how it works. All season long the story's been saying that it has to be DEAN and SAM in the final battle because they're brothers like Lucifer and Michael were brothers and they're destined and all that. This made absolutely zero sense. Lucifer could have done a body switch spell with one of his minions standing in for Sam at any time.

sf universe review

In better news, next week's episode was released by CW to be prescreened by critics and they're loving it, saying it's classic SPN at its best. No more filler. :techman:

Yeah, I'm with the group that thinks the demon had it wrong about Gary being able to give Lucifer Sam's body. Actually, I think even the demon wasn't sure it would work, and that's why she avoided killing Sam in Gary's body.

Hmmm.....last week's eppy was much better.

Only just. The ending was way too abrupt. Sam and Dean angst again... boo hoo, get over it guys.

What happened to the fellow hunter they left behind? What happened to the body of the demon? Too much was left unresolved.

But still, she should've kept him a hostage. Or alerted Lucifer to the location straight away.

quite possibly it could have to deal with a state of mind, ir the state of the mind... he needs sam's agnst.... bodies are superficial... it's the mind that satan said is going to fuel his achievements... satan won't get the same achievements with a different person there... and if it's classic brother against brother satan vs michael - cain vs able - sam vs dean. somebodies going to have to kiss kiss hug hug and forgive each other for all - beginning to end - for the god thing to work in their favor

He was already kept as a hostage (hence being left tied up in a relatively weak body). First priority: get to Sam's body and seal the deal (fast as possible).

As for telling Lucifer first: You don't mess with somebody stronger than you until you have everything wrapped up in a bow. Lucifer could have killed her simply for wasting time when Sam's body was there for the taking. Honestly, though, we don't know much about this particular demon. It could have just had a one-track mind.
