Supernatural 4x6 "Yellow Fever" Spoilers and discussion thread

Something happened during a Supernatural episode that I never expected. I got bored. I turned it off about thirty minutes in. It's on TiVo, and I'll probably finish it some time this weekend, but man, that was tedious.

To me, that was the first bad episode of the season.

Two brand new writers. Never written an episode before. The whole didn't seem quite the sum of its parts, did it? The bit at the end with Sam was creepy though--as was Dean's hallucination of Sam. Sam's gotta be the last seal, or the way to open the last seal.

Very interesting episode, and Jensen's little Survivor video short at the end was funny.

Hopefully, Castiel returns soon and they can get down to some good old fashioned demon hunting.

3.25 million viewers with a 1.3 in the demo. Up from last week. Jensen's lip synching was named one of TV Guide's favorite moments of the week. :bolian:

Very blah epeiode.. other than showing Dean's fear of what Sam will come to be this was a throwaway epiode at best.

Wow. Someone liked this episode. It's already shot up to number 9 and climbing on itunes sales; and that's on the general bestsellers' list, not the sci-fi/fantasy list.

It really was a precursor episode. Cute in its way, but it wouldn't have made it on to the schedule in a 13 episode season like cable has. Its purpose was hinting and foreshadowing. Oh yeah, there are things Dean experienced in hell that we don't yet know, but we will.

Mswood, a treat for you. Slightly evil Sam persona.

I thought this episode was great. It was very funny and I loved the whole initial hand sanitizer joke with the cop. Even the commercial was funny. Dean's scream(the cool one, I always mix them up) from the commercial sounds like this old scream from Doom.

My husband loved it, broberfett. In fact, every online reviewer I've read has adored it.

How's this for funny, people? We all know how over the top (some) of the fans at TWOP can be about Supernatural and about Dean's characterization in particular. So, although it had its fans, a portion of the fanbase there was screaming its bloody head off about how poorly Dean was characterized in this episode. How it isn't funny to make fun of him, make him look like a wimp, and WE. CAN'T. BELIEVE (insert righteous indignation) that all they (the writers) think of Dean is that he's a dick and that's why he got sick.

I guess Eric Kripke got sick of the bitching and moaning. He actually released a statement about it. I don't know if this is funny as hell or plain sad.

Dean is not a dick

:guffaw::guffaw:

Well, the writers said they liked to venture over to TWOP after reading the comments at supernatural.tv. Helloooo? Yes, there's a secret from Dean's time in hell, you crazy fans...

Clips

Here's proof that Castiel appears in the next episode of Supernatural. It's the third clip down on the page. Castiel discusses the situation with the new angel in town, Uriel. Uriel's played by Robert Wisdom from "The Wire." Supernatural's guest stars are getting more high falutin'.

Uriel doesn't like Sam. He's even less nice than Castiel.

Oh, I'm thinking it was transformational. I'm thinking that maybe Dean gave in and started torturing people. He was there for 40 years in hell time after all, and he's supposed to have known a new demon, Uriel, who's introduced later on in the season, very well. Everyone has a breaking point. If you literally have no hope maybe you finally give in. 40 years is a long time. I wonder how the "I'm outraged Kripke thinks Dean is a dick" crowd would react to that. The brouhaha would be delightful.

BUt then you get the Dean girls bitching about how John was in hell for so much longer and he seemed fine, how come poor little Dean broke.

I still want to know where the hell Sam was when he died. So far no mention of a purgatory status to anyone who's passed.

I do wonder since angel can take from hell. Does the CRD have the ability to restore someone who has died and is in heaven?

That group has gone off the rails. I'm serious. Did you know that Sam no longer cares about Dean because he and Bobby were teasing him with the "this job is scary, awwww, isn't he adorable?" bit at the end. They insist that the guys should act like women think men act, but the writers won't do it. Bad Sam and Bobby teasing Dean. They were looking forward to Dean's eventual confession to Sam about what he endured in hell--but now they aren't, since they can't believe Sam really cares about Dean. I kid you not, I was reading this from some of them on TWOP. :guffaw: It's a shame the season "has gone so downhill." I guess Dean rolling his eyes at Sam when he had a ticking clock on his head when he was cursed by the rabbit's foot, telling Sam "wow, you suck" after her tripped outside the restaurant, slipped their minds. I guess Dean doesn't love Sam, either.

On the positive side, the fanatic Dean girls have spawned another contingent of the fandoms who makes fun of the fanatic Dean girls. This is a good thing. :p

Awesome ep, funny, serious, a Bobby appearance (I love that character), and to top it all off that hilarious out-take at the end. I really love this show.

I got kind of a season one vibe off of this episode, back when SPN was more of a "monster of the week" show. It wasn't great, especially compared to the first five episodes, but I still enjoyed it. Especially the opening, and the outtake at the end of course.
