Supernatural 4x19 "Jump the Shark" spoiler discussion thread

I'm not sure if the demon blood thing is much more than a crutch. Demons don't have blood, he's drinking the blood of the human host. It may have somehow been transmogrified by the possession, but I doubt it.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that when the demons possess you their essence (the cloud of smoke) resides in the host blood.

Which would explain why the Sam has been impowered by the Host body of YED and then I believed charged up by the Host Ruby is in.

Overall, it was an average episode, I did like Dean being jealous of Adam's baseball trip with Dad. Kind of ironic considering how things turned out in the end with Adam and his average normal life. Sam taking Adam under his wing and teaching him how to protect himself was a nice brotherly moment. The world's not always a nice, safe place so you better try to protect the ones you care about!!

I enjoyed it, and I was one of those who couldn't stop his eyes from rolling when we first learned about Adam being a "lost sibling." In the early half of the ep I was like, "This actually isn't that bad." But then they pulled an excellent twist that I hadn't even considered (maybe I'm just dumb :p). Good stuff.

I'm a little surprised the ghouls only killed Joe Barton, and not his wife, too. Though I suppose if John had been in town at the time, they would have only killed him, and not Adam or his mother.

Thanks for posting that interview Dorian. Was nice to see them just having fun talking about the show. And I agree with Jared about how it should end for their characters...
I liked this episode, it was more understated than I expected with the title, and that ending really gave me pause for thought. It certainly did seem like Dean isn't at all happy about Sam following in John's footsteps, and he's taken a step away from worshipping John.
I kinda get the feeling Dean and Sam will end up against each other not so much on different sides of a fight, but because Dean has just had enough of self sacrifice and heroism at their own expense. Where as Sam is becoming more and more obsessed with doing what has to be done regardless of the cost.

I doin' good, John Picard. :techman:

Mswood, Sam was restrained. How could he have drank his own blood to fortify himself when his arms and legs were tied down? I doubt he'd have started lapping it up in front of Dean, you know?

Where as Sam is becoming more and more obsessed with doing what has to be done regardless of the cost.

Precisely. That's how I saw it, Bob. I found Sam's "Why is he so special?" when he and Dean were arguing about what to do about Adam and accusing each other of being jealous a very telling remark. We don't have it easy, so why should he? He hid it in the guise of helping Adam, but was Sam really thinking of Adam? It's hard to tell. Sam's on the slippery slippery super slippery slope. Dean was really thinking of Adam when he wanted to kidnap him to Bobby's.

Of course it was really Adam, but if the ghoul could access memories I assume it was doing a pretty good imitation. :borg: You feel like you met Adam even though we didn't. Jake Abel really turned on a dime well with his character's transition.

It certainly did seem like Dean isn't at all happy about Sam following in John's footsteps, and he's taken a step away from worshipping John.

He's taken a big step away. He got to the point where he could call John an obsessed bastard in a dream, but never in front of anyone. Not yet. He defends John to everyone else. I have a feeling that wall will soon fall.

I actually wanted him to go for the bowl after Dean had freed him. I would have LOVED to see Dean's reaction to this. I mean really loved to see it. I think it would be more shocking for him to see Sam do that, then to see Sam sucking down on Ruby.

Because in the back of Dean's mind he could still pass some of the blame on Ruby (especially with her being there to encourage it), as opposed to seeing Sam sucking down a bowl of his own blood.

And yeah if Sam is addicted as they are playing it out to be and he has just been bled out, he should seriously be craving beyond any point we have seen him. So yeah I could see him doing it.

Dorian -- not all men are pigs. Some of us prefer to *eat* the pork than *be* the pork. ;)

Dorian

I just realized. I might not watch the episode on the 7th...I mean I LOVE this show. But My heart has always belong to Trek...

What's a fan/ fanatic to do?

AARRRGGGHHHH

dvr it, watch it when you get home

No DVR

Oh the problem isn't that I am going to miss it. I mean I download it and watch often before it hits the West Coast, watch live, watch it on itunes, and then get the dvd release.

But I alway try and watch it live.

With Trek since I became an adults I have managed to hit the first showing of the first day it was open where ever I lived. So thats going back to 84's Search for Spock.

So no matter what if I watch the 7pm showing that kills the early pirate copy and the live broadcast. If I go at 10 pm that kills the live broadcast. And I hate watching the show illegally without also seeing the live broadcast. The only time I have done that with this show is the few times my local affiliate is down or has problems (like no sound).

AJ!

Glad to see you made it to the thread. I had to work overtime this weekend or I'd have said "hello" before now. Wise words, my friend. I'll give them consideration.

Mswood, can't you see the Trek movie a day later? I'm sure it'll still be playing. ;) Would drinking his own blood do Sam any good? Technically he's not a demon while Ruby is. He's gonna want to keep that addiction under wraps as long as possible. He's definitely ashamed of it or he'd have come clean to Dean before now. He's had opportunity.

BobtheSkutter, I concur with Jared as well. I don't see how the Winchester boys can get a conventional happy ending. They do seem to have been born in the middle of it during "interesting times." Cursed and all.

I always felt that by the end of the season, the brothers will become enemies with their relationship in shambles. But the fifth season will show the rebuilding of their brotherly bond when something happens that forces the two reluctantly work together.

Could be. Nothing better than surviving the hurdles and slowly rebuilding. Jim Beaver says there's going to be some wrenching material to play between Dean and Bobby the last two eps this season. Considering the emotional place Dean's in with his brother(s) and his father, I can see his scenes with Bobby being exceptional.

I enjoyed the not-so-epic nature of this little episode. It was still a very good ep. Supernatural is really the best TV got at the moment...by far!

I'm surprised that I'm the first to point out that it's a shame they didn't keep the acknowledgement of the Wincest phenomenon around for this episode. Three Winchesters are better than two...

Hee. I'm not sure a wincest reference would have fit with the mood of this particular episode.

Of course, faux-Adam probably would have enjoyed sucking on Adam's brothers. As he demonstrated. Little Raoul the dragon commentator at TWOP who loves gore must have been in heaven.
