This was the best episode of the season. This was an episode for me that finally showed that SN could be well-plotted. It effectively pulled together various threads and elements the show established over the course of the series.
I enjoyed seeing Bela however briefly. And I liked how she was used to bring Hendriccson into the mix. It was definitely the kind of self-serving wreckless act that Bela has been shown to engage in.
I liked the teamwork among everyone during the seige realizing they're in this dangerous situation. The show was quite effective in conveying a very tense, frightening standoff.
This was probably Ruby's best episode. I loved the way she just strutted into the precinct and didn't pull any punches in her assessment of the situation and what had to be done. For now, it does appear she really has no ulterior motive. She simply wants to stop the bad guys.
And I really enjoyed the plan that the guys came up with--to let the army in but then to seal them then using the PA to deliver the incantation to drive them out of those they possessed.
In fact, I liked all the players involved which made the moment where Natalie, the deputy, and Hendriccson was brutally killed all the more shocking and devastating.
We finally meet the new power rising up that was first revealed a few episodes back. Not reading spoilers I figured it was Peter Deluise's FBI character. I never assumed it would be a female let alone a little girl but I like that idea. She reminded me of Charlotte from Blade. Creepy that this ruthless power is in a little girl's body. I'm also curious why her eyes are white.
Liked the continuity flourishes--In "Sin City" it was pointed out that Dean needed to read the incantation to exorcise a demon but Sam had it committed to memory so it made sense he'd be the one to recite it in both instances in the episode, there was the same camera shot of Hendriccson dunked in the water with cross afloat as in "Maginificent Seven", made sense Ruby was aware of a spell to destroy demons given that we recently learned she had been a witch when she was human.
The visuals stood out more than they usually do. I liked the one where the army of black smoke descends upon the police station like a maelstrom enveloping it.
I also appreciated the little moments--Natalie averting her eyes when the subject of virgins came up or when she told the deputy that she was going to be having lots of sex after the seige was over(that was an example of effective humor), Dean/Hendriccson scene etc.
The title is also very appropriate since means justice in war. It rejects the notion that anything goes and the doctrine says you can't do anything necessary to achieve a victory such as endanger civilians.
Overall I thought this was a really strong episode and the ominous note the episode has me interested in what happens next. I'd give the episode an A-.

But Lilith can't be the party who has the contract on Dean's life....can she? If she wants Sam to just go away and die, killing Dean is the wrong thing to do. That's what's going to make Sam go off the deep end.

Let me just join the ranks of those who thinks this episode was the best one of the season so far. As someone else mentioned, it had an epic feel despite the contained environment. Great stuff.
And startrekwatcher, Lillith's character also reminded me of Charlotte from Blade: The Series. There's just something sadistic about a Big Bad being in the body of a little kid.

Yeah, this episode pretty much got raves from all the online critics and pretty much everyone except that odd gaggle of six or seven from TWOP.
The final ratings added 10,000 viewers, so it's a good total--by CW standards anyway. A fourth season is pretty much assured. Kripke just did another Q&A. The show is going like gangbusters in Russia and all over Asia. Warner execs are loving their supernatural cash cow.

I actually was suprised that Ellen's episode is going to be the season finale (not to mention what else happens in that episode).
I am kind of surprised with how they are going to end the season, i thought perhaps earlier next year instead.
Also surprised that the next episode is the kind of sequel to Hell House. And while I thought transition wise the changing of the episodes worked out well, to build to Jus in belo. It works out worse for the next episode. Oh well. Can't wait to find out what the other two are.
The notice of the early pickup does help make the wait for April 24th much, much easier. Now I can just obsess about whether its a 13 or 22 episode order.

I was fairly confident that we'd see a season four, but it's nice to have confirmation. :thumbsup:
And I'm going to guess that it will be a twenty-two episode order. The CW doesn't have much else to spend their money on, and I'm sure Warner Bros. would rather have twenty-two eps to give to that international market than thirteen.

Very, very, likely. If so that (unless it really tanks, or the CW folds) really, really helps to give them 5 seasons. Since that even better for oversea and syndicated markets.

Cw has changed its midseason plans. And Supernatural (reruns will return to the airwaves on April 3rd at 9pm on Thursdays. Original episodes will still begin on April 24th (Stupid Chicago).
This should helpfully help the numbers (stupid Chicago), so we don't go from no episodes to a new one.

OOhhhhhh, interesting!
I like siege episodes. They have an excellent way of ratcheting up the tension and forcing people to make questionable and desperate decisions. This reminded of "Croatoan" in that sense.
I definitely got the feeling from this episode that it is on. Lilith is coming to get them, they are not the hunters anymore - they are the hunted. Good stuff.
Great to see Hendrickson back. I'd almost forgotten about him, but he was a good character. Sad to see him go, but he went in a good way.
It's true though, that it can't be Lilith who holds Dean's contract. I think there is a war, like everyone's been saying. But it's not between humans and demons - it's between two opposing factions of demons, with both of them trying to either bring the Winchesters online or get rid of them. Humans are basically caught in the middle.
