Superman

I simply don't understand people that seem to care more about the box office take than they do about actually enjoying the experience. It makes zero sense to me.

If this movie underperforms, or overperforms, it doesn't change my life in even the smallest way.

I've become convinced that those that worry about the box-office results are the same people that feel that monetary succes is the same as happiness. AKA, more money means you're a succesfull and good person and are happy. To these people, not having a lot of money means you're not a good or succesfull person and have less meaning and use in life.

I know people like this, and it's scary. I'm with you dude, I'm there for the fun, couldn't care how much money the movie makes. I'll either like it, or don't.

Yeah, the trailers for this are pretty your standard action/superhero trailers.

Just to clarify for my own understanding, by last Trek movie, I'm assuming you mean Beyond, and not Section 31?
Yep, BEY. Theatrical trailer would imply the Kelvin Timeline.

Nothing would have made S31 any good, even an incredible trailer. Which it didn't have, incidentally.

This trailer is doing its job; showing the world this is an upbeat film with lots of colors and populated with established heroes. That it's different than the previous DC films and is trying to be a live action comic. It's not trying to tell a story. It's not like Superman III which ran a 3 minutes summary of the entire film.

Do I connect with it? Not really. I loved the taser trailer from months ago, that looked and felt great. This feels like an overcrowded film filled with characters I'm not invested in (outside of Superman and Batman, DC wasn't really my thing). I'll see it because it looks fun and I like Superman. But unlike MCU's Civil War and SM:NWH, this is the first film in a relaunch, not the culmination of a series that earned all of these things I'm going to be shown. The film will probably be balanced and fun, I'm just not excited over it. It also doesn't help that I feel Nathan Fillion looks ridiculous with that bowl cut. I think that could have been executed better (Guy also seemed younger in the comics). Also I'm tired of Lex Luthor.

Now when Gunn finally gets around to Batman, if he wants to give me the character from the 70's (less body armor and growling and more sleuthing), I'll be thrilled.

But all this says more about me than the trailer. I'm sure I'll have fun but I'm 80 times more excited about Fantastic Four: First Steps than this because of my investment and how much I Like what I've seen. This trailer is just "there" for me.

This is a good post. I don't agree with some of it, but it is well articulated on the why of why you feel the way that you do.

I'm betting you don't have a 300+ IQ... ;)

As for the talk about the trailers....
The second to last trailer had me convinced. More character moments, some pretty deep stuff. The latest trailer was a lot more action and goofy stuff. Which I don't mind, as long as it balanced. The trailers aren't giving me enough 'balance' feel. Having said that, trailers are made to show off, so I understand the focus and action and some more comedy/goofy stuff.
Again, coming from a guy who loves that because I loved Thor Ragnarok and Love and Thunder was pretty good.

Final judgement will come AFTER I've seen the movie. ;)

I'm actually really looking forward to the film. The last good Superman film was Superman Returns IMO.

Hopefully this is more like that and less like man of steel.

So I rewatched the pilot for Lois & Clark. It had been a long time since I'd seen it and I figured this would help me decide if I'll pick it up on Blu-ray soon.

My first question...why the hell does Clark wear glasses?! He doesn't get the idea for a disguise until part-way through this ep, so why has he been wearing glasses this whole time? :D

I'd forgotten Persis Khambatta is in it!

Were the DVDs already 'remastered' compared to the TV airings? The no-VFX shots here (mostly) look much better than I'd expect, and there's a handful of shots without VFX that look like shit, which makes me think this was redone years back but they couldn't find everything. There's also a bit where the shot ends one frame too early, and the last frame is much worse quality, like someone had the new stuff overlaying the old stuff in their editing timeline and missed a frame.

I hope the VFX shots will at least be color-corrected on the Blu-rays to better match the surrounding shots, but I doubt it will happen. They always stood out like a sore thumb, gonna be even worse in HD. (There's even some interlacing baked into one of the shots. Yuck.)

Anyway, despite all that I didn't mind the pilot. My sense memory tells me I liked the first season or so and tired of it after that, but I like to support Supes on physical media when I can, so I'll probably buy it.

Also, random thought. From 1988 to 2011, we always had a Kal-El centric TV show on the air.
(Superboy, then Lois & Clark, Superman Animated, Smallville.)

Not a bad run at all!
