This trailer is doing its job; showing the world this is an upbeat film with lots of colors and populated with established heroes. That it's different than the previous DC films and is trying to be a live action comic. It's not trying to tell a story. It's not like Superman III which ran a 3 minutes summary of the entire film.
Do I connect with it? Not really. I loved the taser trailer from months ago, that looked and felt great. This feels like an overcrowded film filled with characters I'm not invested in (outside of Superman and Batman, DC wasn't really my thing). I'll see it because it looks fun and I like Superman. But unlike MCU's Civil War and SM:NWH, this is the first film in a relaunch, not the culmination of a series that earned all of these things I'm going to be shown. The film will probably be balanced and fun, I'm just not excited over it. It also doesn't help that I feel Nathan Fillion looks ridiculous with that bowl cut. I think that could have been executed better (Guy also seemed younger in the comics). Also I'm tired of Lex Luthor.
Now when Gunn finally gets around to Batman, if he wants to give me the character from the 70's (less boy armor and growling and more sleuthing), I'll be thrilled.
But all this says more about me than the trailer. I'm sure I'll have fun but I'm 80 times more excited about Fantastic Four: First Steps than this because of my investment and how much I Like what I've seen. This trailer is just "there" for me.
