Superman

I admit I would have loved to see what Chris Reeve could have done with Ultraman...

The original CSA were interesting in that they were not simply evil duplicates but oddball versions - Johnny Quick? A guy who’s helmet made him really fast, Ultraman an astronaut from earth. Owlman… who knows.

Self-defense.

The one time (in the comics) I remember Superman killing people out of pettiness was when he used Gold K to rob Quex-Ul, Faora and [person I can't remember] of their powers, THEN killed them

Reeve didn't do that. He did take away the powers of Zod and his ilk, but then faced off against them in a fair fight.

Clark got his powers back as The Zod Squad lost their powers. It was not a fair fight. Well, Lois killing Lursa was a fair fight, but that's about it.

Non fell to his own death so he's the only one of the three who wasn't directly taken out by Superman or Lois, either in the theatrical cut or in Deleted Footage of Supes destroying the Fortress of Solitude with them trapped inside.

How do you all feel about Lois Lane being Superman's moral anchor in a lot of Superman media?
I think she's an important sounding board, and certainly a voice and perspective he respects and admires. Plus there's the whole love of his life thing. But Clark's own moral compass is plenty strong. And the idea that he would "go evil" as a result of Lois's death is simpleminded drivel that does a disservice to the character.
I've always thought it was a mistake to have Lois know Clark's secret and them married.
HARD disagree.

So you are ok with Superman gaslighting and lying to the woman he claims to love and making her doubt about her sanity?

The fact that he needed to destroy the fortress before he left for the past or that he couldn't leave for the past until after Zod was dispensed with, suggests that we may be dealing with timelines after all, and the Earth he time travels away from, continues as a World without Superman... Which means in the Donner Cut, that he abandoned Lois?

Yeah. It's a fantasy story about made up people dealing with an completely impossible and unrealistic situation. I suppose next you'll be telling me Superman 2 was about date rape.

Of course the setting is a fantasy one, but the characters are expected to follow real-world morality and ethics. Otherwise how do readers know who the good guys and the bad guys are?
