Superman

Time is a dick.

You fuck with time, it fucks back.

Saving Lois = Superman IV A Quest for peace.

Of course... Lois was barely in it.

Although if Lois died in the first one, maybe Clark would still be grieving, and he would not have given Lacy the time of day?

This is not my Superman:

Sorry, not sorry. :techman:
Well, it's your opinion. After two episodes I have to say this is a quite good Superman for me. And I am not the only one, considering they have already ordered a second season.

Dan Murrell is doing a Superman month for his weekly All My Movies podcast on the Schmoedown channel, starting with the first Reeve movie:

The further episodes will be Superman II, Superman Returns and Man of Steel.

I'll always defend this movie. It's got plenty of problems but it's also vastly superior to the next film in the franchise and more than a few modern superhero films.

Wow. One imagines posting the entire film on YouTube is not strictly ... legal?

But yeah, I agree with you that Superman III offers much to like. Then again, I'm an easy touch for live-action Superman media, enjoying virtually every adaptation to a greater or lesser degree.

It goes too far in some scenes with the Dick Lester slapstick but it's nowhere near as bad a movie as many have made it out to be.

It's the incongruity of turning a Superman movie into a Richard Pryor comedy. It's not as incompetently made as Superman IV but it's infinitely more baffling.

It had too little Lois Lane in it, too, but considering Margot Kidder was soured over how the Salkinds had treated Richard Donner, that couldn't be helped. If I remember correctly, Ilya Salkind wanted a more fantastic third movie, introducing Supergirl, Brainiac and even Mr. Mxyzptlk, but WB thought those concepts wouldn't be accepted by the general audience (not to mention being very expensive to produce). The super computer and Vera Webster being turned into a cyborg is what was left of the Brainiac part.

There certainly are good parts of the movie. The Clark vs Bad Superman fight was certainly a highlight, and Robert Vaughn's Ross Webster did predate industrialist billionaire Lex Luthor by three years. And, of course, Annette O'Toole was lovely.

Reeve is at his best and most confident in the third film but plays second fiddle to Richard Pryor in a role that really isn't a comedy role.

I really like half of Superman III. I adore the Clark/Lana stuff, and a small fraction of the Superman stuff is okay. I dislike 90% of the Webster/Gorman stuff. In a lot of ways, I actually prefer III over II, even though it is clearly a weaker film.

In III, the MX was a cruise missile (Peacekeeper ICBM actually)—my only gripe. They could have made the computer Brainiac

In the comics, when Superman flies into space, does he just hold his breath or does he not breath?

I still don't know why they didn't use Brainiac in Superman III. I mean, if you're going to use an evil supercomputer anyway, might as well use the one that people have heard of!

Because Superman III wasn't a Superman film; It was supposed to be a Richard Pryor comedy with Superman in it. (You laugh but honestly that's how I always thought they approached it after watching it first run in the theaters. In those days Richard Pryor was a big comedy name in film. Hell you almost expected to see Gene Wilder with a cameo.)
