Spoilers "Superman & Lois" Season 3

Well I'll never know because my local CW station was one of those stations that was sold off in the sale of the network. Now they air Family Feud from 8-9pm and reruns of 48 hours from 9-10pm.

The CW's shows are available on their free website the day after their broadcast premiere. That's how I've been watching for the past few years since I gave up cable. https://www.cwtv.com/shows/

But that would leave then without a show to fill the time slot for longer because a new show will take longer to spin up and still face the same problems as Superman and Lois.

It is likely the network already had a number of new series slotted to air in the 23-24 season, including any to replace cancelled series. Since they're changing the model of the kind of network it will be going forward, then...

Unless, of course, they replace it with something much cheaper to make and quicker to produce (see any asinine reality show).

Yep. Reality TV is the cheapest to produce, can weather recycling worn-out formats (dating, marriage, crime, abuse, stunts, co-opting cultures, etc.) and frankly, the genre set the model for / forecasted the voyeuristic nature of / interest in a number of social media platforms, which has been drawing traditional broadcast media's audiences away.

Superman and Lois should have been moved to HBO Max after season 2 as an exclusive series, leaving the shaky, ever-changing network model.

Well, if it is canceled, I’ll be disappointed as S3 was excellent (though the Luthor bits at the end were not up to the overall quality of the season—biker gang leader Luthor is NOT a good choice. Welliver from Titans should have been here). But it ended on a good season, always better than ending on a bad one.

If you haven't already, you might Google around and see if The CW signed up a new affiliate station in your area. That's what happened in mine.

It used to be that when a city didn't have a network affiliate, the show would be offered in syndication to whatever local station wanted to pick it up. That happened with Star Trek: Voyager in cities without UPN affiliates, for instance. I don't know if The CW does that, though.

Unsurprising but still unfortunate news -- it's now confirmed that S&L's fourth season (whenever it actually airs following the strike delays) will be its last:
“While we’re sad to say goodbye to SUPERMAN & LOIS at the end of Season Four, we’re grateful for the time we’ve had with our amazing cast, crew, vfx teams, editors, musical geniuses, and writers. Since the day this show was first discussed, it was about family. And that’s what was created—on and off screen,” said showrunners Todd Helbing and Brent Fletcher. “We’d like to thank our partners at Berlanti Productions, DC, WB and The CW for their endless support and enthusiasm during this journey…and give a very special thank you to all the fans for tuning in. We’re thrilled about what we have in store in our final season, and can’t wait for everyone to watch as Superman, Lois and all our heroes face off against the biggest threat in the show’s history—Lex Luthor.”

I keep wondering if I should mention this considering the source, but not long after season 3 ended, I got randomly served a story from one of those rumor-mill websites that said the budget had been slashed so drastically for S&L season 4 that even with the reduced cast and low episode count, they were going to have Clark lose his powers early on and not regain them until the series finale to save money on effects. It's not a believable source, but it is a believable rumor, and I think I'll just mention to put a stake in the ground and see if it's anything like what actually happens on the show.

I can believe it. Clark being in a depowered/healing state after fighting Doomsday makes sense, with a triumphant return to flights and tights in the finale. Besides, we'd still have Jordan and (maybe?) John Henry for some superhero theatrics.

An independent station here got the CW when UPN and WB merged, but they decided to drop the CW when the fall season began. Now it's on another station's subchannel in standard def and I doubt anyone is tuning in.

Mine seems to be a mish mash of channels. On the weekends the old CW channel airs whatever college sports and LIV golf that the CW acquired, while on weeknights, from 8-10pm, my CometTV substation airs the CW prime time line up in low def.
There's talk that either Univision or Telemundo might switch to CW programs, but they're farther up the dial even without an over the air signal.

Come to think of it, why aren't there any new shows on right now? Is it because of the continuing actors strike nothing new is being aired?

Yep - pretty much nothing in in production.

normall shows would have spun up for the new season in the summer ready to for the first eps to hit the airwaves in the fall.

Class act Jon Cryer -- who cheerfully fed me and other doubters our words with his jaw-droppingly awesome performance as Lex Luthor on Supergirl -- has tweeted about S&L's cancellation:
#SupermanAndLois has been fantastic.

Tyler Hoechlin and @BitsieTulloch have been a revelation, both honoring and redefining their roles.

I’m sad to see this as well as the last vestige of the #Arrowverse go. But they left a real legacy with this show.

I was about to say if he can technically do that under the SAG strike, but he never worked on S&L so.. maybe?

Striking actors aren't supposed to promote any struck company's productions, as I understand it. I don't think he intended it as promotion, but maybe he let his sentiment at its cancellation get the better of him.

I finally got around to finishing the season, and there was really a lot to like. I'm glad that they didn't go the easy wait out in curing Lois' cancer--and that last scene when Clark and Lois were together was such a wonderful moment. I only realized at the end of the penultimate episode that there was no way the story would wrap up by the end of the season, so I am glad I waited until now to finish watching because I would have been pissed if I had watched when we didn't know if there would be a fourth season.

I am wondering if the final episode will be this series version of Reign of the Supermen?

I do have to say that the weak spot for this season to me was dumping Manheim for Luthor in the final episodes. Manheim was a complex and worthy adversary for Clark and Lois that I would have liked to have seen more of him. This Luthor is scary as s**t though and I did like him. I wish the writers had done something other than Doomsday though--the character was meant to be a one-off villain whose story was nicely wrapped up shortly after the Reign of Supermen arc. Of course, DC has to keep going back to the same well over and over and over again.
