News Superman & Lois Ordered to Series at The CW

It might be a good idea to actually watch at least one episode before we start calling it a failure.
It's a family sitcom or drama starring superman... Who wants that? It's basically the bad parts of arrow without the good parts.

I, for one, am looking forward to it. Rumours to the contrary, I'm up for lighter-toned Superman stories too. As much as I am a fan of Snyder's Superman, I'm a fan of that version because it does something different. This too, seems ready to explore an aspect of Superman that is underrepresented in other versions of the character. It might be a messy wreck. Could be fantastic. Could be mediocre. But I'll wait until I've seen it before passing judgement. I know, I know. A radical idea for the 21st century. Still, I'm an old fashioned guy.

Me, too. (Understatement of the year -- officially, since it's the last day of the year!)

My sense of this is that it's not going to be all that light-toned, and certainly not a "sitcom," per crookeddy.

And rumors to the contrary, I'm good with more serious Superstories, too. Just depends on the story and the execution. Supergirl's fourth season did an expert job of addressing some pretty serious and dark themes, while maintaining a balance with the character's inherent optimism. I'm hoping for something comparable here.

I said sitcom or drama, with a focus on family. Nobody wants that. Everytime a superhero show deals with family this board for up with "I WISH THEY'D STICK TO THE MAIN STORY!!!!!!" type of posts. Well this is a whole show about the aspect nobody likes.

A superman show on free TV would normally be a HUGE deal, yet this one has literally zero buzz. Even cw know they have a flop on their hands.

Black Lightning is heavily focused on its core family group, and it’s the best damn thing The CW has ever aired in the genre.

It's not that people have a problem with the superhero shows having stories dealing with the hero's family, it's just that people didn't like those storylines.

Quite a few of the sites I go to have been talking about it when new information comes out, so I'd say it's getting a fair amount of buzz. It's a CW show, and in general they don't get nearly the same kind of promotion that you see on the bigger networks or cable channels.

This calls for...wait for it...YYAAAWWWWNNN!

One of his kids will turn on him I bet. Probably siding with Luthor
I'm not really anticipating this, but I did notice that Jordan's introduction in the teaser seemed to have a bit of an ... ominous feel? Maybe? I mean, Jonathan is seen first, in your basic medium shots, followed by a looming closeup of Jordan's eyes, which then pulls back to reveal his face. It struck me the first time I watched it, and every time since.

6.1 on IMDb, proof that it's widely hated. That's super low for a tv show. That's the second lowest for cw behind the show almost universally declared the worst tv show off all time batwoman.

Actually, it's proof that an internet site has it ranked at over 60%. That's it. The number of people who bother to rank things on the internet vs the number of people who bother to watch something on TV is...small. When someone does a proper, randomized poll of viewers, then you can draw meaningful conclusions. Wouldn't hold my breath, though. Until then, the only metric that counts is whether the people who pay for the show's production wish to continue to pay for its production. And, well, it's still in production. If the money people really didn't think it was working, it wouldn't grant them a final season to wrap up story lines--it would simply pull the plug and move on. Also, not enthusiastically loved or supported is NOT synonymous with "widely hated". Despite how the media likes to portray the world as divided into polarized camps, there remain vast numbers of things to which people are merely indifferent. Besides, in order for something to "widely hated", it has to be rather well known. Step outside the "genre online world" and well, CW shows (good, bad or mediocre) are simply not that well known.

Sure it has a 6.1, but if you look at the breakdown, 19.3% of the votes were 10/10, which is the highest percentage, with 4,068 votes. And on Amazon all of the season have 4.5/5 stars.
And just for comparison the other Arrowverse shows don't have the highest ratings on IMDB either. Arrow has a 7.5, The Flash has a 7.7, Legends of Tomorrow has a 6.8, Supergirl has a 6.3, Batwoman only has a 3.6, and Stargirl has a 7.3. So none of them are exactly beloved on there.
And sadly, the fact that the show is focused on black characters, has gay characters, and women in lead action roles is also going to take the ratings down some thanks to all of the racists, homophobes, and sexists out there.

This is just complete foolishness, poor logic based on a bad premise and supported by no evidence whatever. I'm sorry that some people are anxious to see these efforts fail, but seriously - how many of these series has Berlanti produced now? And how many failed?

You've got absolutely nothing here other than the desire to see the show fail - not a thing. No evidence, no relevant experience, no history as a poster of successfully predicting these things, and you're making a negligible analytical effort (if it can be called that at all).

Next.
