News Superman & Lois Ordered to Series at The CW

Hasn't this character already appeared on Supergirl? I wonder why they're recasting. Maybe it's a post-Crisis version?
With everything I'm reading:

- New (different) Superman suit
- New (different from Supergirl) Lex Luthor
- New Mercy Graves

They seem to want to break this show away from the current 'Arrowverse' CW Superhero shows in style/execution - which to me is sad as I liked (overall with some quibbles) how they portrayed Superman on Supergirl - including the costume.

Not only appeared, but died. So it pretty much has to be a post-Crisis change -- either that, or just your basic comic-book resurrection. (Her brother died, too, but that didn't stop him from coming back -- no Crisis required.)

As for the recasting, Superman & Lois has already recast General Sam Lane, and seems likely to do the same with Morgan Edge. Again, could be Crisis changes, or just your garden-variety TV recasting, a la Alura.

That's just a speculation, isn't it?

And I'm not convinced by the article's speculation that "Leslie" is Mercy Graves. It says "the right hand man [sic] to the world's arguably most influential figure." Isn't Morgan Edge supposed to be in this series?

Not necessarily. A new costume makes sense; as Todd Helbing explained, the old suit "just wasn't built to sustain a series." Presumably that means that as an occasional guest-star costume, it isn't as durable, as comfortable, as efficient to get on and off, or as carefully thought out aesthetically as a main-cast superhero suit. Besides, how many times have Green Arrow or the Flash changed costumes?

I agree it seems they're going for a different tone and approach, but I welcome it; the Arrowverse shows can get kind of same-y. I'd prefer S&L to have its own style and voice, not just be Supergirl redux. (And to me, the costume is just cosmetic, a small issue compared with character and story.)

It was spoiled by a widely-leaked pilot script. I haven't read it, but it's apparently proven accurate in every other particular that's been confirmed so far.
If you didn't have me and half the board on "Ignore," maybe you'd know stuff like this.

Yeah, I remember being excited about Rhona Mitra joining Supergirl, only to be really disappointed when she was killed off in her fourth episode.

This show can still have a different tone and style and still be part of the Arrowverse. Plus it's still going to show on CW which means it will still have to feel like a CW show. As good as the show is I don't think people will think they are watching something that could be on HBO of FX even if it's a good show.

The entire cast is now in Vancouver, and shooting is currently expected to begin (finally!) next week.

I wouldn’t mind his Clark/Superman having a small touch of grey in his hair. Even if Tyler does not. It would add to him being an older experienced Superman.

I've had gray in my hair since my thirties. It's gone a lot grayer since, but it's all stayed in, which is what really matters. ;)
