Superman (casting, rumors, pix till release)

Moving on from the costume topic for a moment...since this is an origin story I was worried we wouldn't see much of Superman in costume and action until near the end of the film. Despite the pictures of Supes in his suit I am more hopeful that this will be more than a pure origin story and we will see more of Superman in action that I had feared.

I'm fine with waiting a bit til we see him in the full suit, but I do hope we at least get some early glimpses of it, or at least get to see the grown Clark doing some super-powered stuff.

It's hard to know what we'll get with Nolan though. Begins was a pretty straightforward origin, but then he has other movies which jump all over the place.

I wonder if it will follow a Batman Begins scenario with Clark struggling to find himself a midst flashbacks to his childhood? But then we know Russell Crowe is playing Jor-El so there are bound to be scenes on Krypton.

So it is hard to know how this will all fit together.

I found this thing over here, thought I'd add it to the mix. I don't believe I saw it posted

Personally I like the new movie suit and the way Cavill looks in it just fine.

I do like the brightened colors on the bottom left image.

I'd be fine with that. It's difficult to tell exactly what color the suit is, since it varies with the lighting in pictures.

The one thing the bottom left has that I like is the use of gold to make the thing look more like a belt. I think it would make for a better homage, while still being closer to the changed suit. Minor differences either way, but I thought I'd say something while I'm in the peanut gallery.

Let's remember that these shots of Cavill are candid photographs. The suit will likely look very different after post-production.

I understand the motivation behind manipulating the costume to gauge reaction... but why did the 'artist' feel the need to give him a 17 year old's haircut : /

The four comparison shots above, the "real one" looks pretty good, actually. I think I'd still like a more defined area for the "belt"/waist and I think the "trunks" are an iconic look one expects for Superman but, overall, the new costume doesn't look too bad, I suppose.

I'm not a big fan of the darker colors, though. But, whatever. What'll matter most to me is how the movie itself is.

And seeing the Routh suit again, Oy. I did not like that one at all.

You could tweak the tones and the cut of Reeve's suit and it still works. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. It's being changed simply to create buzz. I can almost hear someone saying aloud, "This new design is gonna real piss some people off." They got that right.

You know.... the image in the upper right looks more convincing than any million-dollar cgi effect in superman Returns.

I have to disagree. While many special effects are still very good in the Donner Superman movies some of them do look pretty dated compared to Superman Returns.

I like the shot. What sells it is the intensity of Reeve's face.

Routhe was never allowed to look that intense.
