For me, at least, the weird part is that they are most likely doing that "Hollywood ageism" thing with Diane Lane and casting a woman as older than she is. It seems that, once a woman not named "Julia Roberts" hits 40, she's suddenly only fit for "mom" roles.
And, to make matters worse, the "mom" is often an actress not much older than the person playing her "son" or "daughter." For example, see "Christmas Vacation," where Diane Ladd played Chevy Chase's mother (while being only about 11 years older).
Smallville wasn't a Superman show; it was some kind of fungus.
Synopsis is vague, but it does suggest this won't be just another simplistic origin story, and that there will be some tough decisions and moral quandaries for Superman to also deal with, which is good.
For reference I would suggest reading "Birthright" and "Secret Origin" (especially Birthright) as I have long suspected that this is the majority of where the source material is coming from if it is indeed a personal journey story.

Thats three strikes against it in my book. But I remain hopefull. For reference I would suggest reading "Birthright" and "Secret Origin" (especially Birthright) as I have long suspected that this is the majority of where the source material is coming from if it is indeed a personal journey story.
Also the recent j michael straczynski "Superman:Earth One" will probably come into play.
Exactly. In the '40s and '50s. Times change. What was the only choice, the 'politically correct' choice (considering the politics of the time) was for the character to be a white male. In 2011 (or 2013) those considerations need no longer apply. It may be regrettable, but it's a simple fact that certain character types were not going to be envisioned as anything but white in those long ago days. The same applies to translating the character to comics in the 1940s and '50s---it would not have occurred to anyone then for Perry to be anything other than a white male.
They could bring back Lois' bob haircut. I wouldn't be offended.![]()
