Superman (casting, rumors, pix till release)

It's probably more 'realistic'. I don't know about 'better'.
'Realistic' is relative though. There's neither a trunks wearing or trunks-less Superman running around in 'real' life so how is one more realistic than the other?

My thinking is there's no reason for the trunks. Zero. So why have them?

(cape is the same way though, I guess, unless it's bulletproof and he can use it to shield people)

I'm actually not wholly opposed to the Kryptonian look they have going on in the midsection there, but I feel like there is a serious missed opportunity to incorporate the shield and bring the red and yellow into the rest of the design. Would have liked a larger yellow belt (Red belt is bad Jim Lee, do you hear me?) but really even a bit of that alien piping around the shield to bring it all together would work fine. Right now it kind of looks like he pasted the shield on top of a Kryptonian suit.

Surprisingly, it doesn't look like the suit is actually all that thick, since we can see vascularity through the suit on his biceps and forearms. I suspect the only place they did any 'filling out' is on the abs where definition is hard to accomplish with something so tight. Looks like they've given it a rubberized coating or something, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is just as thin as the last few suits.

There's really no reason for him to have clothes at all, his invulnerable to Earth disease and climate extremes so why does he need a damn suit at all?!

Fans weren't raving mad over the fact that Batman wasn't wearing grey and black tights in Nolan's film. Not to mention that this version of Superman is much more faithful to the comics than the Nolan version is. With Batman, the entire color scheme is different, plus it's all armor. Even in 1989 they knew that the traditional costume wouldn't work on screen. People just wouldn't take the character as seriously as they could. If Batman can be changed so drastically for film and people can get over it, then there's no reason why Superman can't be changed a little bit.
