Supergirl TV Series is being work on.

Notice what's missing in that description?

Superman.

A world with Supergirl but no Superman...I dunno....

(The BBS's spell-check agrees with me...as I type this, there's a red squiggly under her name, but not his....)

Possibly. I remember the original show description (seen in this older article I found) talked about the powers she shared with "her famous cousin":

http://deadline.com/2014/09/supergirl-tv-series-cbs-dc-greg-berlati-ali-adler-836682/

But who knows if that's still the case. Personally I don't see why the character couldn't work just as well all on her own.

I really can't see them changing the description of the series from what was previously released, which means that Clark most likely does exist in this version of the story. Whether or not we'll actually see him is another story entirely, though.

There have been versions where Superman existed but Supergirl didn't. Why not do it the other way around?
And while we're at it, how about a Robin show in a world with no Batman?

Recently cartoons have given us a lot of Robin.

Teen Titan's was %99.9999 Batmanless.

Young Justice had a strong Bat-Presence.

Titans Go! Has had a few guest spots, and there was one episode where Robin is House sitting the Batcave while Batman is out of town and the rest of the Titans crash his gig and touch EVERYTHING... How dumb are they? Didn't they notice Stately Wayne manor on top of the Batcave since his secret identity is still quite secret?

Doesn't sound like any of those examples are pretending that Batman doesn't exist.

There's just something inherently wrong about milking a property and ignoring it at the same time.

The only mention of Batman in 5 seasons (And a movie) of Teen Titans was when Terminator & Robin were having a fight on a roof top, steamrolling through a marquee of a company letterhead built from 20 foot letters, that you don't even notice spells out "Wayne" till the end of scene as Robin is screaming at Slade "YOU'RE NOT MY FATHER!"

No sure it's really a good comparison given that Supergirl still has all the powers of Superman and can do just as many cool things on screen. While Robin... more often than not is just some kid with a staff and a smartass attitude.

Yeah, Hollywood should keep those dang girl-cooties off our Super-man, amirite?

Superman wasn't a spinoff character of Batman; Green Arrow wasn't a spinoff character of Blue Beetle.

This isn't about legalities or whether Supergirl should have her own show. It's about milking the association with Superman while pretending that Superman doesn't exist.

You might as well be Rorschach wandering around in a sandwich board claiming that the time is nigh.

Are we sure they are going to do that?

Superman even showed up a couple times on the aimed at 4 year olds Krypto cartoon from 2005.

Or maybe it's about allowing a major female hero to shine on her own without being defined as a mere echo of a male hero. Or maybe it's just about not stepping on the toes of the Superman movie franchise. We aren't privy to the production meetings, so we have no way of knowing what the actual reasons for their decisions are. Nor do we actually know whether Superman will be referenced in the show or not, so it's premature to jump to any conclusions.
