So? Bigger, truly loved characters have been killed off in TV series before (e.g., ER's Mark Greene, a number of characters on The Walking Dead), and the shows moved forward.

Some minor number of shippers don't keep shows afloat, and no one should listen to them.

There's no risk. A handfull of people might whine. No biggie, as the showrunners are not strangers to screwing over characters (yes, I mean James Olsen)..

How? Supergirl's ratings have always been low, and surely you can sense that the show is winding down. You had one longtime series regular leave this season, and I would not be shocked to see another depart sooner or later. That, and Benoist probably has a desire to do other things, not stay in that costume for another two or three years.

    1) Arrow lasted 8 seasons (even if the last one was greatly shortened), I think they will try to do the same - going until 8 seasons* - with Flash and Supergirl, unless Grant and Benoist choose to leave before, what would be normal because even if the working conditions seem advantageous for actors, it must be relatively tiring and Vancouver in winter, blah, especially if you like the sun and the warmth.

*Star Trek series under Rick Berman almost all lasted 7 years, except ST: Entreprise which ended after 4 seasons. Maybe Greg Berlanti would be tempted to do the same in giving to each of his series, a defined number of seasons.

Hey - If she dies and then they want the character back, Lex can always clone her. ;)

Like the 8 seasons Arrow got? ;)

About the ratings, I know that Supergirl's ones have always been low (although the S1 aired on CBS pretty well worked even if the broadcast felt that compared to the financial investment and the audience generally obtained by its series, Supergirl was weak) and the quality goes down season after season but come on, CW and his big brother, CBS, had to set a limit not to be exceeded, right?!
In France, when a program or show is produced or purchased by one of 5 main broadcastings but they don't get the
expected success, the said braodcasting gives it to one of her little sisters (like CBS with CW) but audience limits are being set on every channels, regardless their importance in the french audiovisual landscape). If the ratings reach this minim in terms of acceptable limit, the program is in first, changed time slots and if it keeps slowing down, despite already changes operated such as a change of cast and storylines; the decision to terminate the said program is taken. I don't think that in USA or elsewhere in the right, it is different, right?! Look at shows which stopped after 1 or several seasons with a sloppy end - when there isa end - because the producers did not expect to have to close the doors, letting viewers desesperate because they will never know the end of the story for their favourite characters.

I already know that Supergirl reached its 100th episode while the season isn't over yet and s6 was already announced but if ratings had to reach 500 000 viewers and even below, with less than 0.2, I don't think that CW but even more, CBS would allow Berlanti and his team to keep going without making significant changes to the series, like downgrading regular actors to recurring and even, getting rid of some not very popular with fans or costing too much to production, focusing on 2 or 3 storylines but no more, especially those which go nowhere.

Though the ratings were strongly low, lower than previous last 3 seasons, I think that s6 was already announced because of Benoist's contract, which had to last until next season. But if the viewers keep stopping to watch and/or critized theidiocy of the
storylines offered, I'm not sure that a eventual 7th season could be easily gotten by Berlanti. But it is just my opinion.

Ah, I hadn't thought of that. But without going that far, Lena might have a look-alike on this Earth, as seeing as
it is said that we all have one somewhere, completly different from the original character... It could be cool! :techman:

Benoist will probably want to have a kid at some point in the not too distant future so I can see the show ending at Season 7. It’d be good for her to end the show and then take some time off for herself and to start a family.

On the other hand, a Supergirl pregnancy arc could be interesting. She wouldn't have to give up her powers as Clark did, since that was so Lois wouldn't be killed by a super-baby inside her. Kara wouldn't have to worry about that.

Kara is super dense and invulnerable.

Even a Kryptonian embryo is going to be crushed trying to grow in such a restrictive environment if it isn't solar charged.

I’m not sure they can have a pregnant woman running around and getting hit by supervillains, in terms of PC.

Uh, that's not even how "PC" is supposed to work. It's the other way around -- the feminist portrayal would be to show a pregnant woman as still strong and capable of taking care of herself, not a useless hothouse flower who needs to be sheltered. Look at Major Kira in Deep Space Nine, Aeryn Sun in Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars, or dozens of other action heroines over the past few decades. Xena, Warrior Princess even fought off an army while she was in labor.

Depends when they film it. If she has a visible baby bump and they make her wear a pretty tight suit and have her flying around getting punched by bad guys, that may not fly (excuse the pun). Especially if it’s one of those “Supergirl almost dies” storylines.

If the fetus can fly... It might decide to be difficult and pull mum off course.

Sure, no direct sunlight, but the umbilical cord should supercharge the fetus.

TVGuide interviewed Jeremy Jordan. Nothing spoilery (if you are caught up to the end of Back From the Future, Part 2). A lot is his insights into the Lena/Kara relationship, returning to the show (this time and in the future), Winn's family and the possibility of a musical episode.

I’m not sure what to think about the 100th episode. I guess as a stand-alone special episode it was pretty decent, although with these things they always feel rushed.

I still miss Kara’s old hair and suit and this episode didn’t help with forgetting about it, lol.

I’m just gonna put it here though: that last alternate reality still exists somewhere/sometime and it will come back at some point.

    Season 5 / Episode 13 - "It's Super Life"

SG/Kara: Alex said it best: "...changing history to save a friendship?" only to go back on the one bit of wisdom anyone will ever see on this show and encourage Kara's obsession.

"How could you ever think that?" Kara yells at Beta-Lena referring to herself as a villain. Yes, the non-heroine Kara conveniently forgets about Lena's eugenics program. Just sweep that away, because reasons. Inexcusable reasons.

"I won't be able to forgive myself?" What? She did not owe Lena anything regarding her secret. This series has never provided a single, logical reason why she believes the most private part of her life is the business of anyone else, particularly when civilian lives are at greater risk when they are "in" on a costumed person's life.

"You want to do good." So much BS the showrunners continue to squeeze out.

NOTES: So, Kara is so addicted (a mirror of the showrunners) to this ridiculous "gal pal" crap that she considered altering the lives of who knows how many beings just to have a friendship with a corrupt woman (as Alex pointed out), yet she never considered asking Mxyzptlk to give her the only thing she should be concerned with: preventing / reversing everything that would lead to the crisis. Yet another reason Supergirl is one of the most morally challenged costumed, "heroic" character of any on TV.

SG now claims she's going to hold Lena to any decisions she makes, but a betting man would lay it all on someone making a last-second reversal of this decision, because she just knew "you were good all along." Right, Eve? Adam aka Subject 0331?

Oh, and yes, referring to Lena as her "best friend" when Alex said it was "James-what's-his-face" is another shovel of dirt on the face of the Marginalized Black Token.

    This was the 100th episode?

    GRADE: D.

I wouldn't mind that. It was fun, a quickie riff on all the dystopian timeline tropes (complete with Scarface Nia).

The episode was pretty enjoyable overall. It was fun to see so many actors/characters back. It was definitely for fans more than casual viewers, however -- even I was on my mental toes connecting all the dots of the various needle-drops into the show's history.

Was kind of annoyed at first that the whole thing hinged on Lena's one-person pity party, which has worn out its welcome this season, but Supergirl's final confrontation with her addressed that issue in quite satisfying fashion.

I think the whole point of the episode was that SG needed to take responsibility for her decisions just as Lena needs to take responsibility for hers.

Sorry to quote you again, but thinking more about it I could see this alternate reality being the setting for the next crossover. In this reality, their SG is killed by Lena, who is expanding her activities worldwide. Alternate Barry recruits our version of SG to help.

Never thought you will put a D to an episode but you did! Producers/writers have good reason to be worried about the quality of their scenarii! :D
