Spoilers Supergirl - Season 2

Not versed with the multiverse in the comics, but couldn't the 2 or 3 universes we're involved with merge from that point on? So no previous stories/episodes are negated.

Wow... When this was just fan speculation, everyone seemed to like the idea but me. But now that it's rumored to be really happening, suddenly there's a lot of resistance to the idea. I'm almost tempted to start arguing in its favor now... ;)

But seriously, I hope this rumor is false. I feel the logical progression at this point is to add more universes and expand the multiversal storytelling, not consolidate them back down again.

The idea may have been casually mentioned but I've never heard of anyone liking or pushing the idea in any meaningful way. I hope it's just a rumor too.

Don't believe this "merger" crap. It's completely nonsensical for a number of reasons*, and is about as likely to happen as pigs are to fly.

* Reasons why this is nonsensical:
1) Supergirl is only filming their second episode of the season; they're not going to stop filming to set up something that would completely invalidate the events of that episode and everything else that they're planning for the season

2) That Instagram photo of all the character boots was already confirmed to be for a promotional shoot

3) DC's Rebirth initiative is slowly making it clearer and clearer that the Flashpoint event did not actually cause the creation of the "New 52" continuity, and the actual cause of said continuity/reality just doesn't fit with the tonal mythos that Berlanti and Co. have set up over the course of 9 seasons across 4 shows, to the point that introducing the thing that actually caused the "New 52" continuity would be a major "jump the shark" moment

And like Christopher and possibly others have pointed out, Flash has already show characters jumping back and forth between universes, so there's no need to merge for the crossover.

Exactly.

Bleeding Cool just doesn't know what they're talking about here, and it's sad that this silliness is getting as much attention as it is.

Was Bleeding Cool the same site with previous list of rumors that have not been proven true? Remember supposedly Batwoman, Oracle, and other characters were predicted. While some may argue those are still surprises being held for later in the season, I do not believe that at all. Why did they not hear any of the actual news that came out of Comic Con before it happened?? To take rumors seriously the source has to have a proven track record of being right.

While I agree about this just being a rumor at this time, point #3 above is really a nonsensical reason for not doing a Flashpoint based merger. Just because the comics have retconned the cause of the nu52 universe does not preclude the TV shows from using Flashpoint to merge the settings.

It won't stop me from watching the shows if they do "merge" them, but I fail to see any compelling reason to do so beyond "because they can". And that is rarely a persuasive argument for any action.

Yes, it does, because the entire rationale for Flashpoint merging the universes on TV is that it's what happened in the comics, which is now being proven to be a false notion.

Yeah not really a fan of this idea either. No matter how they try to justify it storywise, it would just feel too odd to suddenly have two such powerful alien superbeings existing and flying around in the Arrow and Flash worlds as if they've always been there. As many superpowered metahumans as they've already dealt with, none of them really compares to a Superman or Supergirl and the very different dynamic they would have created in that world had they been there from the start.

The introduction of Dawn didn't erase 4 seasons' worth of storytelling.

Pebble in a river dude.

Although it's just memories that have been altered, not reality, so you're mostly right, but not completely right.

We saw different stories week to week than everyone in the Buffyverse eventually comes to remember happening.

There were comics.

General synopsis
Remember that time when Buffy's little sister Dawn first found out that Buffy is the Slayer? And then when Angel almost killed Dawn, because no one had told her that he'd turned evil again?

Buffy and her friends all have memories about Dawn Summers, yet only Buffy and Giles have discovered those memories are not real. Buffy and Giles are still lacking real answers about those memories. Meanwhile Dawn vanishes without a trace, and the Scoobies have no idea where she is. Buffy will stop at nothing to find Dawn.

And with a competent writer, the same would hold true here.

No.

If you retroactively merged Supergirl's Earth with the Arrowverse'shows Earth-1, you would have to completely discard 6 seasons' worth of storytelling because the way that Arrow Seasons 2, 3, and 4 and The Flash Seasons 1 and 2 played themselves out would be completely different with the existence of aliens and Superman being public knowledge.
