Spoilers Supergirl - Season 2

I'm not a big Affleck fan anyway.... And RDJR cleaned up his act....

gG is not gay, but he said he's been assumed to be before since he has done things like tap dancing and other things like that.

She's not a victim. Just stupid.

You know the guy who does the STC and plays Kirk is a devout Christian. Just saying :)

That is more than far enough. You have a warning for trolling, so I suggest you back off an re-think your participation in this thread.

Everyone else needs to move on from this firefight and discuss the show, please.

It isn't private unless it's within the sanctity of marriage.
That doesn't make any sense.

But anyway... I am excited about the CW lineup, it's nice to have a sort of "superhero" network, one that hopefully will arrange for it's show catalog to be streamed on Netflix or AllAccess.

I think there was word recently of a deal between The CW and Netflix, so that Netflix will offer the CW shows for streaming a few days after the end of the TV season.

Ah, found the article:

I've only watched the first episode of Supergirl since it's not on Netflix or Amazon Prime here in Germany and I really suck at watching real TV on a network's fixed schedule.
Is it worth it for me to go out of my way and pick it up? What kind of themes and characters does it explore apart from the obvious (superpowers, omg!).

Sisterhood is the theme I think it does best, but as I say that as a man with no siblings, someone with actual sisters might find it terrible.

It also touches a lot on friendship, mother-daughter relations both biological and adoptive and feelings of being an outsider.

It's not perfect, and it could be very corny and unoriginal. But it's worth it just for Melissa Benoist. She brings such vivaciousness and joy to the character that you forget that the rest of the show was often lacking. So long as at least the foundation of the show (Benoist) is strong, I'm hoping it can build up to something better in season 2.

Thematically, it's one of the more socially conscious shows out there, with a good deal of allegory for current events. There's a strong feminist slant to the series, a fair amount of LGBT allegory (lots of references to Kara "coming out" as Supergirl), a corporate antagonist who distrusts the government, debates about the rhetoric of fearmongering vs. hope and coalition-building, a guest-star politician stirring up anti-alien race hatred and talking about "building a dome" to keep the aliens out, a debate about the ethics of illegal detention without trial, etc. It's often dismissed as fluffy because of its upbeat, optimistic tone, but it's the kind of show that proves you don't have to be dark and pessimistic in order to have something meaningful to say. It's engaging with where America is as a society right now and whether we want to choose a path defined by fear and division or one defined by cooperation and understanding. Yes, it does so in the context of a light-hearted adventure show filled with tons of action and humor and interpersonal bonding, but the show has more to say than most of the other superhero shows on network TV.

I have to admit she's a lot of the reason why I watch as well. I honestly have a lot of the same feelings I used to get watching the Christopher Reeve films when I watch this show.

I watched all of season one a few weeks ago. I can't wait for more! Love Melissa Benoist as Supergirl! She's bubbly and sweet, yet strong and tough.

The supporting cast is wonderful too, especially Calista Flockhart. Her line about Harrison Ford gave me a good chuckle.

The show can be cheesy but the production is slick and Melissa Benoist is just so damn likable. There's a meme of just her reaction to getting a surprise ice cream cone.

IMHO it does all three topics, sisterhood, friendship and mother-daughter relations quite well.

The sisterhood theme is my fav and I say that after being very disappointed in how that central relationship was initially portrayed in the season 1 premiere.

This one wasn't "so" bad...

Here's where Alex (initially) lost me.

But the character of Alex has grown over the course of the episode not to mention the series.

Alex' relationship with her adoptive sister is probably my fav on TV right now.

I wonder, since Supergirl already had a Legion of Super-Heroesreference, maybe its Mon-El (aka Lar Gand) in the pod? He could even have a good reason for being in a Kryptonian pod, depending on what elements of his various origins (there have been a few different versions of the character) they used for him. Its probably very unlikely, but its something that came to mind.

Bleeding Cool posted an unconfirmed rumor that Chris Wood is in fact playing Mon-El, so it wouldn't surprise me if that turns out to be the case.

As for why he'd be in a Kryptonian pod, Daxamites are a 'colony'/'sister race' to the Kryptonians, so it'd make sense that they'd have similarly designed technology.

They could just skip Daxam and Lar Gand and just make him Mon-El a Kryptonian.

^ You're right... however, I don't think they would, given that all of the people involved are very knowledgeable about and fond of the source material and delight in staying true to it whenever they can.

Also, making Chris Wood's character Mon-El and deriving his backstory as much as possible from the comics would provide them with yet another tangible connection to the Legion of Superheroes, which we already know exists - or will exist - in the "Earth-S" mythos.

Which doesn't mean they wouldn't streamline or change it when it suits their storytelling needs. I mean, we've already seen several examples of that. Max Lord is a Luthor-esque billionaire scientist rather than a mind-controlling PR maven; Jemm is a villain instead of a hero; the female Bizarro is the first one of her kind rather than a variation on the male one created by Luthor; the alien from Starhaven was not a stereotyped Native American; etc. Their first priority is to tell their own stories. Fannish continuity nods can be fun, but they aren't more important than creating a coherent narrative that's accessible to new viewers.

We'll just have to wait and see what they do.

BTW, today is the first day of filming, so we should hopefully start getting more information about specific aspects of the season.

Mon-El was my first thought too.
