I guess if they weren't prepared, they just weren't prepared, but that's okay. This just means when we do get the trailer, it's going to be that much more awesome*.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 had a trailer. It may have been a case where Paramount was just buying one spot and they went with the "tentpole" that was coming out earlier. If I had to guess, I would imagine the next trailer will be out fairly soon, possibly to go in front of Batman VS Superman. (Correction: Paramount also had an ad for 10 Cloverfield Lane, but it comes out in a month.)
