No disrespect to people in their 60's or Nichelle Nichols but I'm pretty sure when I'm in my 60's I will not want to watch a woman in her 60's doing a freakin' fan dance, I certainly didn't in my teens.

What was good about it? Nothing.
I thought it was a fun way to get Uhura involved. It's not really sexy or unsexy to me. Just a dance & song. Mostly song.

I love that shot. But then I am not all schooled in photography and junk, I just know what I like and I like how alien that planet appears by having those moons so close to the planet. I can, instead of nitpicking rules of perspective, enjoy it by wondering how it would feel to stand under them looking up. I imagine it would make standing at the base of the tallest building in the world pale by comparison which, I believe, was its point of addition to the film.
From how it looks in this shot, LINK , You can see a few different/interesting things.
1. There appears to be another type of shuttle.
2. You can see what looks to be the outside of the shuttle's hangar(s).
3. There's also interesting logo/name on the top of the pyramid shaped building (that is about a 1/3 of distance from the left, and just to the left of the 1st shuttle). I wonder if this is something new that could be hidden/viral out on the internet similar to what they did with the Tagruato Corp. in Cloverfield.

In San Francisco? The pollution all blows down to San Jose.
That's water. Many districts of San Francisco have fog for part or all of the day, most of the year 'round -- morning and evening fog is very routine. From the way the buildings are backlit, I'd guess that shot is supposed to be in the morning, shortly after sunrise, before the fog has had a chance to burn off.
EJD1984: I'm not sure I see a different kind of shuttle; what are you seeing which makes you think so? And which structure are you thinking is the shuttleport exterior? Someone mentioned a logo and Tagruato before, but I still don't see where that is.

The Targruato Logo is at the top of the 1st building from the left.
