Nice :techman:

I installed Ubuntu 10 this evening, got everything set up. Here's my shiny new desktop (Click the image for full size):

Thanks! Besides the smaller moon at the lower left, there are also a tiny one visible at the upper left and another small moon at the upper right (just about where the '7' is) which is only visible for a few seconds before the clock loads

I keep going back and looking at this picture - I know it's a real place, yet it looks like anything but what you'd expect to find in the Indian Ocean, 500 miles from anywhere.

newly formatted laptop. got only the essentials installed. (everything is legal btw)

Nice wallpaper! I don't recognize the USS Aventine. Is that fan work or is it somewhere in canon that I missed?

The images are gorgeous. It may seem odd, but I feel fortunate to see such things, even though I'll probably never go there myself.

Is that Diego Garcia?

It's Malé, capital city of the Maldives.

Edit:

Not exactly a desktop pic, but more Cassini/Saturn goodness and a Google homepage background image in attachment:

It's gorgeous, but the words "I would not live there" spring immediately to mind.

its kind of canon. its Ezri Dax's ship from the star trek destiny novels. designed by Mark Rademaker. its in the SOTL 2010 calendar. the other ship is mine. not the design but the story, name, everything else. check my sig in case your interested.

they're not even remotely canon. they're not soft canon, quasi-canon, pseudo-canon or half-canon. they're not even diet canon.

anyone in the Trek Lit forum will tell you so, most particularly the authors.

As people who know and/or love me know, my desktop wallpaper has been for the last few years this beautiful blue number created by stretching an extremely tiny blue bitmap image (2x2 pixels in size) thus exploiting a brilliant and fortuitous side effect of desktop image stretching apparent since the days of Windows 98.

As other people who know and/or love me also know, I have a lot of icons on my desktop, making things overly cluttered.

However, I have now come up with a solution. Since I changed my logo last week, I decided to reorganise things properly, moving away from the natural, chaotic look of the old, and, with a bit of image manipulation, desktop icon and icon space rearranging, and a lot of hidden untapped ego on my side  I have now come up with this unified, organised, egocentric, and hopefully less cluttered effort:
