It's funny, because even if they weren't (when they quite obviously are), the film's financial success should speak for itself, right? It's getting sequels, it's getting spinoffs. It's huge. Why is that not enough?

Seems to be a lot of it going around. People that like a movie will point to its metacritic/tomato ratings and/or box office depending on which supports their narrative. "It's a terrible movie, look at it's tomatometer (or whatever it's called)." "No it's not, look at the box office returns!". Then followed up with "Critics don't know shit!" or "Yeah, well Transformers made a lot of money too!". Or in reverse if it was critically lauded or a flop.

Basically, how much money a film makes has almost nothing to do with its artistic quality. A very good film could make lots of money, or bomb terribly. Same with a very bad film.

I don't begrudge people who enjoy Suicide Squad, but from a perspective of craftsmanship and artistic quality, it's simply bad. Poorly made in a variety of ways, from its writing to its direction to its editing to its post-production. Not sure how a major studio film ends up being so shoddily made in this day and age, although the aggressive schedule seems to have a lot to do with it. I'd say even Transformers films are better-produced, from that perspective.

Stated earlier in the thread. You're welcome to dig it up.

Oh, I see.
Well I've read it and there's really nothing there to explain how it's "poorly made in a variety of ways", you mostly just complain about the plot which judging by some of the questions you raise you weren't paying much attention to anyway as they're all explained in the movie itself...

I guess you didn't notice the bizarre editing, muddled direction, dodgy CGI, terrible dialogue, various plot danglers, and so on? Fair enough!

Like I said, you're entitled to like whatever you want. I'm not sure why that's not enough for some people.

Remember that your perspective of craftsmanship and artistic quality is entirely different than others. You say that the Transformers films are better produced, but from my perspective the second one is so utterly offensive that it makes Suicide Squad look like Blade Runner.

There's really seems to be a big divide between fans, critics, and the general audience of certain films recently--and several of them are for DC properties. What you say is poorly made, I may say is gold, and we're both right.

Please didn't take this as a criticism of your opinion, I enjoy respectful debates of this nature.

Critics get things wrong sometimes, and sometimes in large ways, no doubt about it, but if I am going to go with a consensus, I'll go with critics over fans every single time. Fans rarely have an appreciation for direction, storytelling, acting etc. They just want a few continuity bones thrown at them. In general, fans are to be avoided at all costs.

Nope, I didn't.
You keep using buzzwords with no substance behind them.
What's "bizarre" about the editing? What's "muddled" about the direction? Which CGI is "dodgy"? Which bit of dialogue is "terrible"? What plot elements were left "dangling"?

Words like "direction" and "editing" are buzzwords to you? :wtf:

SS has now made $718 million dollars. It's now surpassed Captain America TWS worldwide. It looks like it may finish out at $730 million. It won't overtake GOTG, which made $773 million, but SS came pretty far. Despite the poor reviews, lack of a Chinese release and a smear campaign from the media.
